Rwanda

Rwanda, known as the Land of 1,000 hills, is culturally rich and ecologically diverse.  Its economy is primarily based on subsistence agriculture and it produces and exports some of the world’s finest tea and coffee.  Rwanda’s capital is Kigali and it boasts three main National Parks.

Perhaps the best known is the Virunga Mountains which span the borders of Rwanda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Uganda. This area, protected by all three countries, is the home of the endangered Mountain Gorilla Gorilla gorilla berengei.

Nyungwe Forest is among the largest forests remaining in Africa, and stands as one of the largest mountainous rain forests in the world. Nyungwe boasts 13 species of primates including chimpanzees, an enormous troop of Colobus monkeys, Gray-Cheeked Mangabey, and a variety of guenon monkeys, including l'Hoest's and Owl-Faced monkeys. Additionally, the forest has over 300 species of birds, with many irridescent fruit-eating varieties, and nearly 100 varieties of orchid.

Akagera National Park is located on the border with Tanzania and offers excellent game and bird viewing. Home to herds of elephant and buffalo, hippo, crocodile, leopard, spotted hyena,  lion, giraffe and zebra  and more than 12 types of antelope.

.

Lining the lakes are some of the continent’s densest concentrations of waterbirds, while the in the connecting marshes you can find  the endangered and exquisite papyrus gonolek, and the bizarre shoebill stork - the latter perhaps the most eagerly sought of all African birds.

ZIMBABWE IS BACK!

Tracks Safaris have travelled extensively in Zimbabwe from the capital city Harare to the old colonial town of Bulawayo and over to the fabulous Motopos National Park.

We have stayed at lodges and camps in Hwange - home to some of the largest herds of elephant in southern Africa, enjoyed the wildlife and lake at Kariba and Matusadonia and revelled in the glorious views over the Zambezi River at Mana Pools. Zimbabwe is home to some of the very best wildlife and guides in Africa.

If you are planning a visit to Zimbabwe give us a call - we would be delighted to assist with your travel arrangements.  The country is safe, welcoming and ready for your visit.  Our advice - visit soon to enjoy the great wilderness areas before everyone else does!
