Once Mozambique’s mighty trading centre, Ibo Island in the Quirimbas Archipelago National Park, Northern Mozambique, has remained all but forgotten to the outside world for almost a century.
The interior of Ibo is a bushy habitat, which spills over onto coral reefs, mangrove forests and little coves. The waters surrounding Ibo are home to pristine sandbank beaches where dolphins, turtles and a varied marine life live.

Ibo Lodge is located on the prime waterfront site where romantic dhows sail out to sea on each high tide. The architecture is a restoration of a style that originated over one hundred years ago with coral and lime walls over a meter thick, and original teak beams.
Rooms are individual, a simple design, with splashes of opulence, high lofty ceilings, indigenous solid teak, and mahogany handcrafted furniture and there are breathtaking views overlooking the island and beyond.
Overlooking the bays you’ll witnesses anever changing vista of Ibo life revolving around the tide, rather than the time. Garden facing rooms step out into lush tropical gardens, with chunky palm trees, and intimate swimming pools. All rooms boast mahogany handcrafted beds and are covered with crisp cotton linen and Indian silk throws.
All rooms enjoy ceiling fans and air conditioning and ave large windows to catch the sea breeze. Rooms share wide verandas, which house comfortable plantation style chairs and soft cushions. A carved Indian screen divides the space, providing that extra bit of privacy. Bathrooms are all en suite with twin basins and large marble showers.
Dining on Ibo is a real event, elaborate and indulgent. Fruits of the ocean and other tropical dishes are all prepared by our local chefs. Sugar desserts, traditional Ibo Island crab curry, and lobster thermidor are some of the highlights on our menu.
Breakfast and lunch can be served either in the privacy of your own room, on a sandbar, or in our tropical gardens, dinner on the rooftop terrace under the stars and lantern light. With the shore just feet away, sometimes dolphins can be heard in the bay.
