Mikumi National Park is the gateway to the southern parks and is the third largest park in the country. Although not as well known as its neighbour, Selous Game Reserve, the park offers an interesting and stimulating safari experience.
Stanley's Kopje is situated on the traditional trader and exploration routes taken by Stanley, Burton, Speke and Livingtone (amongst others) on their epic journeys to find the source of the River Nile.
The camp is newly built and set on a rocky kopje overlooking the Mwanamboga water hole, located on one of the few hills dotted about the extensive plain.
The 360 degree views from the restaurant and bar on the top of the hill are quite spectacular and each tent is spaced out around the base of hill with open vistas stretching out as far as the eye can see.
The 12 beautifully furnished tents are situated on wooden platforms with thatched roofs and all have en suite bathroom facilities with solar heated hot water.
The tents can be double, twin, single or triple and extra beds can be added on request.
Game drives are taken in open, adapted 4WD vehicles. The vehicles have tiered seating and roof shading. Game viewing is shared unless a private vehicle reserved.
Day excursions to trek in the Udzungwa Mountains National Park can be prebooked. There is a swimming pool at Stanley's Kopje.
