Mnemba Island Lodge is an award winning lodge situated on the beautiful private island of Mnemba, a mere 4.5 kilometres (2.8 miles) off the north–eastern tip of Zanzibar.
There are just 10 guest bandas on the island, all with spacious outdoor verandas, and all tucked away in your very own private and secluded stretch of shade within the tropical beach casuarinas pine forest.
Rustic and simple yet luxurious, the bandas ensure that you can unwind and relax in absolute privacy. Each banda is constructed from hand woven coconut palm and local timber and is large, airy and open plan in design.
The spacious bedrooms are filled with soft, natural fabrics and traditional woodcarvings and you can relax on the built-in barazas on your veranda or settle into a plush armchair to enjoy the ocean view.
Traditional Zanzibari loungers in your private beach sala invite you to spend time in the sun. A shady corridor of woven palm leaves leads to a large shuttered bathroom where a massive stone shower awaits behind a glass beaded curtain.
The lodge has a dive school and two dives boats for just 20 guests on this tiny island,
and there are two scheduled dives per day. Other activities include snorkeling, kayaking, swimming, windsurfing and fly–fishing.
Additional activities include:
- A wide range of Scuba diving, training and appropriate certification for beginner and advanced divers.
- Deep sea fishing for barracuda, mackerel, king fish and Marlin
The island is surrounded by an atoll of coral reefs and pristine white sand beaches and is the perfect place to relax after a safari.
Mnemba is a breeding site for the highly endangered green turtles and it is possilbe to watch the turtles laying their eggs in the sand. Green turtle egg laying season is year-round with a seasonal peak in February and March.
