World Elephant Day, August 12th

World Elephant Day, August 12 is a call to action. With the theme of matriarchs and memory, emerging conservationists across Asia and Africa are using storytelling to show the world what elephants represent: strength, connection, and the power of remembering. With phones, cameras, and lived experience, they’re capturing the urgency, science, and beauty of elephant life through film, photography, and digital media.

Storytelling is survival. It helps people understand what’s at stake. It brings conservation to life. And it connects us across cultures and continents through empathy and meaningful impact.

Tracks Safaris has long supported the work of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust which operates the most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world. We have sponsored two baby elephants for many years and strongly recommend adding a visit to Sheldrick for any itinerary starting or finishing in Nairobi – its a great way to experience first hand the wonderful work they do and perhaps adopt your own baby elephant!

In Northern Kenya, Reteti Elephant Sanctuary is shining the spotlight on critically injured and vulnerable elephants. Escalating challenges like climate change, drought, and human-wildlife conflict leave scores of endangered animals injured or orphaned, yet in terrain this rugged, and with nearly impassable roads, help often arrives too late…

To fill this dire need, Reteti has launched a campaign to start a rapid-response mobile veterinary unit for World Elephant Day. Read more about this mission to reach remote locations faster and provide lifesaving treatment when every second counts – and help drive the change!

Tracks Safaris are now sponsoring two baby elephants here as well to celebrate World Elephant day 2025!

Have you ever wondered how an elephant sees, hears, smells and feels the world? Or what emotions and intellect do we share with these big-brained, social mammals?   On your next visit to Victoria Falls in Africa make an appointment to meet a very friendly elephant!  EleCREW is a registered non-profit organization with a vision of an Africa in which humans and elephants coexist in a balanced environment. Your visitor fee goes toward supporting our charitable activities. This is a one-off adventure into the mind, body and soul of an elephant! Follow the link for more information on their work and we can incorporate a visit into your itinerary – just ask!

Elephants can be viewed in the wild across Africa and Asia. A real highlight of staying at Mfuwe Lodge, Zambia in December is the chance to see local elephants wander through the lobby in search of wild mangos!

During our Essence of Sri Lanka journey you will look for wild Asian elephants in the Minneriya or Kaudulla national parks. The newly added 17 night India’s Big Five Adventure takes you to see majestic elephants roaming Assam’s floodplains.

Whether you are planning to meet and interact with elephants in Victoria Falls, view elephants on a walking safari in Zimbabwe, in a mokoro drifting along the Okavango Delta or from the comfort of a classic safari vehicle in Kenya, India or Sri Lanka – make Tracks Safaris your first stop. With expert guidance based on years of travel experience – we get you closer to the experience you dream of!
