ENTIM MARA – MASAI MARA RESERVE
Entim – meaning ‘forest’ in Maasai – is discreetly tucked on the edge of the riverine woodlands in the Masai Mara Reserve. From the shaded seclusion of camp you can relax in comfort and enjoy the stunning views over the Mara River and across expansive plains with the distant backdrops of undulating escarpments and volcanically sculpted hills.
From the veranda of each tent it is possible to see the migration – usually from July to October – when thousands of wildebeest are crossing the river during their annual migration through this vast wilderness area. The camp is eco-friendly and small with only ten tastefully but differently furnished and well-equipped tents with decor designed to enhance the surrounding environment. Entim was designed with a purpose in mind; to be in the best possible location to view the wildebeest migration in the Maasai Mara game reserve. For a few months of the year the migration is on the doorstep on the Mara river.
LOCATION
Close to the Mara River and just a short drive from the confluence of the Telek and Mara Rivers within in the Masai Mara Reserve.
TENTS
All 10 comfortable guest tents overlook the Mara River and are well-placed with ensuite flush toilets and hot showers. There is a cosy lounge area with a small library, separate bar and dining area which is open-fronted – allowing guests the experience of eating meals while watching the animals move to and from the river to drink and forage for their food.
Entim Private Wing is designed for small groups or couples who would like exclusivity and privacy and organised photographic safaris. Guest tents are discreetly located in front of a small spring surrounded by trees and one hundred meters away from one of the major wildebeest crossing points on the Mara River.
ACTIVITIES
Entim you don’t have to drive for hours to get to the wildlife action because you are right there in the middle of it. Nor do you have to be hurried out of the Reserve before gates close at 6.30 pm – you can continue to see wildlife whilst in camp. You can choose to sit in camp and just watch the wildlife from your tent if you would prefer! Apart from 4 x 4 game drives offered by the camp you also have the opportunity to enjoy:
Hot Air Ballooning – float over the golden savanna dotted with animals in a hot air balloon. It’s truly a bucket list experience and we advise you to book this excursion at the same time as your accommodation to ensure a place.
Maasai Village Visit – you will never realise how different Maasai life is from your own until you visit a Maasai village. As the village lies outside the National Reserve an hour from camp your game drive is on the way to the village. Bring cash as the ladies display all sorts of crafts for sale including colourful ethnic beadwork. Ask your guide about protocols of taking photographs. You can book this excursion in advance or while you are at camp.
Bush Breakfast – enjoy an al-fresco picnic bush breakfast or lunch out in the wilds. Picnic and camp beverages included. Champagne, special wines and luxury spirits excluded.
Sundowners – Sundowner Hill is about 15 minutes’ drive from Entim Camp and it’s a superb place to stop for drinks and snacks and to watch the sun go down. Enjoy the 360 degree views of big sky savanna that epitomises the Masai Mara and as the daylight fades and no-one else is around, it feels like the Masai Mara is your own private wilderness. Soft drinks, water, beer, house wines and non-luxury spirits included.
Entim Spa – the Spa’s body, hand and foot rituals will give you a “reboot” to feel a fresh sense of ultimate relaxation.
