ASILIA BUSH HOUSES – MARA AND ACACIA HOUSES
Two private Bush Houses offer a fabulous alternative for families who would like to enjoy the Mara in your own house tucked away in a wild and remote area of Kenya away from camps and lodges. The two houses can be used together for larger families or two groups.
LOCATION
Mara North Conservancy, Mara
HOUSES
Far removed from the most visited parts of the Mara Acacia House and Mara House overlook the popular Ol Chorro waterhole. The two houses share a pool and the barbecue areas are ideal for sundowners or long lunches. Inside each house, you’ll find an open plan dining room and lounge with a log fire – perfect for when the temperature takes a slight dip in the evenings. Each house has three bedrooms; Mara House has three ensuites, while Acacia has one e suite, a ground-floor bedroom with a shared bathroom, and an attic room that’s ideal for kids.
Your meals are prepared in-house using produce from the local area and Nairobi and fitted around your plans – if you wish to take breakfast or lunch out on your game drive you can. All dietary requirements are catered for; just let us know ahead of your arrival.
Though not hosted, each house comes with a full team, including a chef, house manager, and your own private guide. You will have your own private 4 x 4 vehicle so you can decide exactly when you want to go out on safari and for how long.
ACTIVITIES
Game drives – your guides will take you out on two game drives per day: one in the morning and another in the late afternoon or ou’re also welcome to stay out all day with a packed lunch. Because you have a private vehicle you can remain at each sighting as long as you like. There is no rush and no set schedule – this is safari on your terms.
Walking safari – Set out on foot for an exciting exploration of the savannah. On a nature walk with your guide you’ll see all the small things you miss or scare off in a vehicle: bugs, butterflies, birds and more. It’s also a fascinating learning opportunity for children who get to examine dung and identify animal tracks.
Cultural and community visits – the culture of the Masai is both complex and fascinating and time spent with your guide and his community is often one of the most rewarding aspect of your safari. Asilia only visits villages, communities and trading centers that are part of their team’s home life – you will be well received and made to feel very welcome.
Night drives – As the houses are in a private conservancy with more flexible rules than the Masai Mara National Reserve you can go out in the evening for a drive after dark. Using a spotlight to find glinting eyes you might see predators hunting or nocturnal creatures like a bush baby, genet or porcupine.
