Using small boutique hotels throughout – experience the best of Sri Lanka’s wildlife whilst staying at very comfortable hotels and lodges.  Your first hotel will be the Wallawwa – a small luxury boutique hotel situated within 20 minutes’ drive from Colombo Airport.

After a relaxing stay, transfer from The Wallawwa to Jetwing Vil Uayna in Sigiriya – an Eco friendly resort offering a beautiful selection of dwellings with combine simplicity with stunning comfort. During your stay have included:

  • Loris walk  around the Vil Uyana Resort in the late evening
  • climb to the summit of the famous rock citadel of Sigiriya
  • visit to the second ancient capital city of Polonnaruwa with primate watching
  • jeep safari in either Hurulu forest reserve, Minneriya or Kaudulla national parks to look for wild Asian elephants.

Vil Uyana and Sigiriya area is also an excellent location for bird watching and you could easily spot more than 50 bird species in this area .

In addition to its spectacular history, Polonnaruwa is an outstanding location for watching primates. Three species of monkey—the Toque Macaque, the canopy-dwelling Purple-faced Leaf Monkey (both endemics), and the Gray Langur can be observed here. Polonnaruwa’s Temple Troop of Toque Macaques has been featured in numerous natural history documentaries and is part of one of the world’s longest-running study on primates which has run continuously since 1968.

After 2 nights stay in Sigiriya, drive from Sigiriya through scenic and remote roads to Gal Oya where we have suggested a 2 night stay at Gal Oya Lodge – a beautiful eco lodge situated on the border of the Gal Oya National park. The Gal Oya National Park serves as the main catchment area for one of the largest man made reservoirs in the area.  During the dry season, it is one of the best places to witness the elephants swimming across the reservoir to the Gal Oya National park as the water level will be lower.

After exploring wildlife in Gala Oya, drive towards Yala to spend two nights at Wild Coast Tented Lodge – a Realis & Châteaux property situated very close to the famous Yala National Park’s main entrance (known as Block 01). We have included 2 game drives in Yala National Park – all game drives will be conducted in a shared jeep with a service of a naturalist at Wild Coast Tented Lodge.

From Yala, drive to south coast for 2 nights beach stay at  Cape Weligama Resort located in Weligama – the only Realis & Châteaux property on south coast of Sri Lanka. Situated on a cliff with a great view of the Indian Ocean, Cape Weligama is one of the most stunning places to stay on the south coast of Sri Lanka. During your stay we have offered a half-day whale-watching expedition on a private catamaran from Mirissa to spot the giant whales and dolphins in the Indian Ocean.

This is a tailor made journey and we are happy to tweak the itinerary to suit you!
