SABUK LODGE – NORTHERN LAIKIPIA
Sabuk is remote and beautiful – an exclusive wilderness haven on the edge of the Northern Laikipia Plateau. The lodge is perched on a cliff overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River which cascades beneath the lodge all year round. Sabuk, which remains a family home, offers wilderness and stunning views of the Laikipia plains towards Mount Kenya, as well as the Karisa Hills and Mathews Mountains in the North.

LODGE
Sabuk has four spacious en-suite suite open-fronted stone and thatched cottages, with private verandas and stunning views overlooking the river valley below. Some of the rooms come with star-beds so you can literally fall asleep under the African sky.
Eagle Cottage is two fantastic en-suite cottages – one with king size bed and one twin. This family unit has its own exclusive ‘mess’ and dining area as well as plunge pool.
The Family House has one double bed and one single bed upstairs, together with a fireplace and sitting area by the fire, and also an amazing view of the valley. Downstairs are beds for children molded into the rocks and 1 small bed (up to about 5 years old). Downstairs is all enclosed and very safe – there is one en-suite bathroom with an outside bath, a toilet, sink and a shower/bath.
The Family Room is one double bed plus three single beds as triangular bunk beds (two down one up in the middle). The bathroom is en-suite with a shower, sink and outside bath, and a toilet with a view. There is also an outside lounge/bed.
The resident chef has been with Sabuk for many years and is superb at rusliting up delicious fresh home-cooked meals. Steaming hot cups of Kenyan tea and coffee are available at first light, fresh and seasonal fruit is served at breakfast. All meals are cooked with a healthy appetite in mind. Meals are served family styled in our homely dining room or on the terrace. The family approach to dining means all ages and all tastes are catered for.
ACTIVITIES
Guided Bush Walks – s your expert Samburu guides lead you through the wilderness they will teach you how to identify birds and bird-calls, learn which berries are can be used for poisoned arrows and learn to track animals. These nature walks are tailored for all ages and levels of fitness.
Culture – meet the friendly local Samburu tribesman and visit their homes to get a taste of the pastoralist lifestyle. Listen as they share their customs and their knowledge of the land, people and history of the region.
River Activities – Sabuk is perched on a cliff overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River which cascades beneath the lodge all year round. Therefore the river provides an abundant range of activities throughout the year. Try river fishing – there’s plenty of fish to be caught. Swim and lounge in the river natural pool, in the higher water levels try rock jumping or tubing down the faster waters.
Horse Riding – Sabuk has three Somali ponies you can take for morning or evening walks in the bush. Perfect for children.
Bush meals and Sundowners – under a nice shady spot on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River or under the stars enjoy a bush meal for watch the sun go down with a drink in hand. Enjoy the serenity of being in the middle of a pristine wilderness, surrounded by nothing but bush.
Camel Safaris – disappear off the grid with your expert guides leading you and your camel train through the bush on a spectacular fly-camp safari. Start your journey with an overnight at Sabuk Lodge. Each day is organised in a manner most suited to your personal interests and requirements. The fly camp is simple and comfortable and tents have mosquito net ceilings to allow for star gazing from bed! There are bedrolls, short drop loos, kerosene lanterns for lighting and bucket showers. All the linen, bedding, towels are all provided on the safari.
