Sabuk is a fabulously situated lodge built on a cliff 150 feet above the Ewaso Nyiro River in Kenya's Laikipia region. The fast flowing river attracts game for many miles around and at Sabuk, where doum palms line its banks, it is particularly dramatic.
Sabuk share over half of the profits with the local community and works closely with them to preserve their cultural heritage, improve standards of living, education and health care. There is a small shop at the lodge selling crafts made by the local community.
There are six thatched cottages on the cliff top - stone houses with open fronts and en-suite bathrooms. All carved out of the rock and crafted with cedar and olive knocked down by elephants in the surrounding bush, Sabuk is very much in harmony with its surroundings.
Eagle Cottage is a separate cottage with two bedrooms for families and the guides are especially good with children and teenagers.
The bush around Sabuk is fabulous for walking and a team of camels lives at the lodge, making it a major expedition base for exploring Laikipia and into the Northern Frontier District.
Led by Laikipiak Maasai guides, guests can enjoy long and facinating hikes and camel safaris. The Laikipiak Maasai hosts have expert knowledge of the area and are happy to share their knowledge about medicinal trees and shrubs and way of life.

The lodge works closely with the community, the Laikipia Maasai, who in turn are happy to share their tribal and bush craft skills - tracking animals, pointing out the uses of the flora and fauna and educating visitors in new ways of looking at the wilderness surrounding them.
Elephant and buffalo congregate on the riverside and the area is renowned for wildlife - lions, leopard, cheetah, gazelle, dik dik, Grevy's and Burchell’s zebra, greater kudu, reticulated giraffe and buffalo.
