ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE

There are several wildlife viewing opportunities in Victoria Falls – A favourite is the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge waterhole where a sundowner may be enjoyed on the viewing deck or at the Buffalo Bar as elephant, buffalo, kudu and other wildlife also quench their thirst.

Victoria Falls town is uniquely located within Victoria Falls National Park, and it is not uncommon to share the footpath with a vervet monkey with a baby on its back, or a family of warthogs!

Game drives in the nearby Zambezi National Park offer the opportunity to see lion, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and several species of antelope. Game viewing is best during the dry season between July and October, when there is less water around and animals congregate at waterholes. Wildlife is also easier to spot during this time as the bush is not so thick and lush.

There is a huge choice of activities available in and around Victoria Falls and Livingstone which can be booked and paid for directly at the lodge. These include white water rafting,

Canoeing, helicopter flights over the Victoria Falls, game drives, sunset cruises, gorge swings, canopy tours and art sessions.

Onsite activities include:

Vulture Culture Experience – all guests at the resort are invited to enjoy this daily educational activity affectionately referred to as the ‘Vulture Culture’ experience.

It focuses on the ecological importance of raptors and scavengers in order to maintain and to build an overall awareness of conservations issues these birds face. By educating about the feeding habits and conservation of vultures creates awareness of the conservation issues that face these birds. The experience is at 1300hrs in front of the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge and lasts approximately 30 minutes.

At 1245hrs the resident guide gathers the guests sitting at the Buffalo Bar to join him to head to down to the feeding area. Carcasses from The Boma dinner the previous night are thrown out to attract circling vultures. This is an amazing experience as there is activity in the sky at 1245hrs and by 1300hrs – it is heaving with over 100 vultures and other birds of prey.

Siduli Hide Hide Sit – situated on the edge of the waterhole at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge the Siduli Hide offers you a chance observe wildlife in a unique way. A qualified professional guide escorts guests into the hide, which is designed to look like a termite mound. This involves a short 5 minute walk from the lodge to the hide. Once hidden within you wait for a variety of mammal, reptile and bird species to visit the waterhole to quench their thirst or to sample minerals at the nearby salt-lick. Time spent in the hide will vary but it will be a minimum of a two hour sit. We confirm on 2 guests and currently we can take a maximum of 6 guests (no children under 16 years allowed unless special permission is granted). There is an extra charge for this activity.
