VICTORIA FALLS RIVER LODGE – ZAMBEZI NATIONAL PARK – VICTORIA FALLS
Victoria Falls Safari Lodge is nestled on the banks of the Zambezi River within the Zambezi National Park and offers wonderful wildlife viewing opportunities with easy access to the historic town of Victoria Falls where you can visit the Falls and explore this incredible natural wonder on foot.
This beautifully furnished lodge is just 10 minutes’ drive from Victoria falls town and offers just 13 luxurious tents including 5 luxury family tents right by the Zambezi River with a rim-flow swimming pool, fitness centre and gym.
The best way to experience the Zambezi National Park is on game drives and on foot on a guided bush walk and there are several picnic sites along the Zambezi River where you can enjoy fishing for bream and tiger fish. Children are especially well catered for with a variety of child friendly activities and dedicated family tents.
LOCATION
The lodge is set in the Zambezi National Park just a few kms outside Victoria Falls town in Zimbabwe. Access is via a 30 minute road transfer from Victoria Falls International Airport.
LODGE
The lodge has just 8 air conditioned luxury tents constructed of canvas, glass and wood. The ensuite tents have a larger than king size bed, a comfortable sitting area and an open plan bathroom with freestanding bathtub and both indoor and outdoor showers. Outside is a private deck with its own plunge pool with fabulous panoramas of the Zambezi River and natural bush.
Additionally, there a 5 luxury family tents similar to the luxury tents but larger and with an additional adjoining tented room where up to three sharing children younger than 17 years old can sleep comfortably. The expansive ensuite bathrooms are open plan and a curtain may be drawn between the bathroom and main living area offering privacy as and when required.
The spacious, open plan main areas offer comfortable lounge and dining areas and has a raised game-viewing platform with 360 views through the tree-tops overlooking a private waterhole. On the decking is a wood fired pizza oven and the thatched bar area has panoramic views over the river.
The lodge has a rim-flow infinity pool, an onsite fitness centre and complimentary WIFI in public areas. There is a boutique gift shop with local arts, crafts and bespoke souvenirs and the Africology affiliated Toa Spa.
ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE
The Zambezi National Park in Zimbabwe is a 56 000ha game reserve a few kms upstream from the Victoria Falls. Game drives in the park follow extensive networks of roads along the river which are accessible and controlled through the main gate of the Park. There are also a several picnic sites along the Zambezi River where you can fish from as well.
Most of the Zambezi National Park consists of Mopane Woodland with a thin strip of Riverine Bush along the edge of the river. A wide variety of larger mammals may be found within the Zambezi National Park including elephant, lion, buffalo and leopard. In addition, herds of sable antelope, eland, zebra, giraffe, kudu, waterbuck and impala, as well as many of the smaller species of game, can be viewed. The Zambezi River is also home to over 75 species of fish and is famous for its bream and fighting tiger fish.
Morning and Afternoon Game Drives – join your Guide and head out to explore the 150,000 acres that make up the Zambezi National Park.
Sunrise and Sunset River Cruise – a relaxing voyage on one of the Victoria Falls River Lodge luxury river cruisers is a wonderful way to soak in the magnificence of the iconic Zambezi River and its surrounds.
Guided Tour of the Falls – join your guide who has a detailed knowledge of the local fauna and flora and other points of historical interest on an unforgettable tour of Victoria Falls.
Bird Watching – the Zambezi National Park is a bird watcher’s paradise and birding enthusiasts will be able to view a great diversity of birds within rain forest, riverine, gorge and savannah habitats around the falls and at the lodge.
Local species include rock pratincole, Schalow’s turaco, African finfoot, half collared kingfisher, thick billed weaver, African skimmer, Pels fishing owl, collared palm thrush and western banded snake eagle (to name but a few).
Children’s Activities (staying at Luxury Tented Suites) – a choice of 2 x game activities (morning/afternoon game drive and sunrise/sunset river cruise) per child per day. These include special game drives, boat cruises, walks around camp and various books and games for indoor entertainment.
Guided Bush Walks – experience the African bush on foot and accompanied by an expert Guide and enjoy the opportunity to get a little closer to some of the Zambezi National Park’s resident wildlife. (Optional activity – available at an additional charge).
Fishing – the Upper Zambezi is home to a wide variety of fish species and half-day guided fishing trips leave directly from the Lodge. Tiger fishing is a highlight and a unique experience. Fishing from the jetty is also an option. (Optional activity – available at an additional charge).
