& BEYOND NXABEGA OKAVANGO TENTED CAMP – OKANVANGO DELTA

Ideally positioned to explore the magnificent Okavango Delta – Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp is located on an exclusive 25,000-hectare wildlife concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve.

The camp is known for its elegant tented accommodation and has amazing views of both mature mopane woodlands and seasonally flooded grasslands.  Blending harmoniously with the environment the camp has just nine tented suites (including a family suite) set on raised wooden platforms.

The spectacular open air boma is on the very edge of the Delta and set in the mottled shade of the camps massive ebony trees.  Enjoy starlight night time dining, private bush dinners, breakfasts in bed, lamplit cocktails on a river island or a walking safari with al fresco picnic -all served with pleasure by Nxabega’s warm and friendly staff.

LOCATION

&Beyond Nxabega is located in the Okavango Delta in northern Botswana.  Access is via a scheduled charter flight to Nxabega Airstrip and it is a scenic 15-minute drive to the camp.

CAMP

The suites are set under a canopy of towering ebony trees and a luxurious bed, an extended private veranda complete with a shaded sitting area, irresistible hanging daybed, and glorious Delta outlooks. The open-designed ensuite bathroom has both an indoor and screened outdoor rain shower, with a flush toilet enclosed by stylish canvas panels.

Raised on wooden platforms, the spacious tented suites let in the sights and sounds of the African bush and offer glamourous, light and earthy interiors. Front-facing beds make the most of the Delta views and there is a spacious dressing area behind the bed’s giant headboard in between the bedroom and ensuite bathroom. The beautiful bathrooms come complete with indoor and outdoor al fresco showers.

The camp has one family suite which is made up of two interleading luxury tents which are ideal for families, multi-generational families and small groups of friends.

Beautiful views, teak floors and a high pitched, open-truss ceiling frame the central guest area. Expansive indoor and outdoor sitting and dining areas include an interactive food and coffee bar with trained baristas; an extensive pool area with loungers and shaded salas; a dedicated massage sala and a spectacular open-air boma set under the dappled shade of the camp’s massive ebony trees – ideal dinners under the stars.

The camp has a swimming pool on the main deck and sun loungers overlooking the floodplains of the Okavango Delta.

ACTIVITIES

A maze of sparkling lagoons, meandering channels and overgrown islands teeming with wildlife – Botswana’s Okavango Delta lies like a sparkling jewel at the heart of the Kalahari Desert. Known as the river that never finds the sea, the Delta’s crystal-clear channels spread over the Kalahari with their papyrus-fringed banks and fertile floating islands. Adapted for a life in and out of water, the elegant red lechwe and shy sitatunga are found in this watery wilderness. Lion, cheetah, leopard and African wild dog share the floodplains with large herds of elephant and buffalo. Hippo inhabit the deeper channels and lagoons while honey badgers can be seen in broad daylight. Tall termite mounds are homes for families of dwarf and banded mongoose.

Game Drives – explore the wildlife diversity of this large private concession on exclusive morning and afternoon game drives that continue after sunset. The varied landscape also lends itself to a wealth of bird species which includes the exciting possibility of sighting the elusive Pel’s fishing owl after nightfall.

Guided Walking Safari – examine the often-overlooked aspects of the natural world and experience this private concession on foot. Observe and learn as your guide expertly interprets the signs and sounds of the bush.

Catch and Release Fishing – seasonal catch-and-release fishing excursions take place in the Panhandle region where the Okavango River feeds into the labyrinth of channels and lagoons that make up the heart of the Delta wetland. Try your hand at catching an engaging variety of fish that include the predatory tiger fish. March to December.

Scenic Helicopter Flight – with many of the Delta’s remote areas generally inaccessible an aerial perspective is one of the best ways to get a true feeling for the Delta’s vast land-water spaces. Keen photographers can choose to have the doors removed for unrestricted views.  Extra cost.

Seasonal mokoro safaris – the Delta is probably best known for its Mokoro safaris which are small boating trips through the maze like channels and shallow lagoons of the Delta. They are conducted in traditional boats which are called Mokoros. These sturdy boats used to be hand crafted out of large Delta trees but today most of the boats are fibre glass replicas to prevent the cutting down and depletion of the area’s magnificent trees.

Mokoros are a great way to go game viewing. As they are not motorized, they allow you to glide silently through the channels. This allows you to approach the wildlife silently and you will see more. You will see many animals that feed on the grass and reeds on the palm islands such as lechwe, sitatunga, elephant, hippo and crocodile. Mokoros are seasonal and dependent on water levels.

Seasonal motorized boat excursions – game viewing is also offered in motorized boats. These trips allow you to cover more ground and should allow you to see more of the landscape and are a fabulous experience at sunset. Again, these excursions are seasonal and dependent on water levels.

THE CAMP WELCOMES FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN OF ALL AGES.  

CHILDREN 5 YEARS AND YOUNGER CANNOT PARTICIPATE IN GAME DRIVES OR NATURE WALKS. CHILDREN AGED 6 TO 11 CAN PARTICIPATE IN GAME DRIVES AT THE LODGE MANAGER’S DISCRETION.  CHILDREN AGED 12 AND OVER CAN PARTICIPATE IN GAME DRIVES AND CHILDREN AGED 16 AND OVER CAN PARTICIPATE IN NATURE WALKS
