Northern Botswana’s Chobe National Park is a fabulous wildlife destination accessed via Kasane International Airport and covers almost 11,000 km² – it was Botswana’s first national park.
A haven for wildlife in the dry season – Chobe is renowned for its large concentration of elephant and buffalo which congregate along the Chobe River. Chobe Under Canvas is a very comfortable semi mobile tented camp and is situated in the park’s northern reaches and is set close to the river. Well-worn game paths meander through the safari tents and down to the water’s edge really getting you closer to the wildlife!
During your stay enjoy twice-daily game drives and a one half-day photographic boat safari. The photographic safari offers the chance to brush up on your photography with tips and tuition from a professional wildlife photographer aboard a custom-built Pangolin photographic boat.
LOCATION
&Beyond Chobe is located in the northern reaches of the Chobe National park in northern Botswana. Access is via Kasane International Airport.
CAMP
Each of the five spacious canvas tents has a comfortable double or twin bed as well as an ensuite bathroom with separate flush WC and an outdoor bucket shower – steaming hot water is available on request. A private butler is on hand to ensure you have a wonderful stay.
The common guest area has open-sided tents for dining, pre-dinner drinks around the campfire or simply relaxing between game viewing adventures with a good book and a frosted beer or glass of wine. Delicious meals are cooked over the coals and are shared around a blazing fire.
ACTIVITIES
Chobe National Park has one of the largest concentrations of elephant on the African continent. Surrounded by wildlife management areas and reserves that allow game to roam freely the park is located in the far north of Botswana bordering on the Chobe River.
Chobe is particularly well known for its large herds of elephant and buffalo as well as the two antelope that cannot be seen anywhere else in Botswana – the puku and Chobe bushbuck.
In addition to the vast floodplains that occur along the river, Chobe offers tracks of dry savannah. Dense teak woodland provides thick cover in the north-eastern parts of the park. Watching the elephant families swim, drink and bathe in the river is an unforgettable sight. Large herds of buffalo, pods of hippo and Nile crocodiles can be seen and spotted hyena are frequently seen on the floodplains where red lechwe, puku, zebra, sable and roan graze.
Game Drives – renowned as one of the top wildlife reserves in the world, morning and afternoon game drives explore the game rich landscape of Chobe National Park. The guides will also tell you about the vegetation of the region and will explain the behaviour of the animals that you come across. In some cases, the guides will be able to identify individual animals and let you know about their history and habits.
Birdwatching – Chobe has over 450 species of birds and sightings are sensational along by the river with a multitude of water birds, waders, raptors including owls, hawks, eagles and kites, plovers and lapwings, kingfishers, bee-eaters and rollers being just some of the stars.
Photographic Safari on the Chobe River – capture wildlife and scenic landscapes of the Chobe National Park on a photographic safari. Accompanied by professional photographers in a custom-built boat – you will receive expert tips and recommendations on how to capture the fantastic images. Every seat on the boat is fitted with a top-of-the-range camera that is fitted to a customised mount – so you needn’t bring your own equipment.
