KADIZORA CAMP – NORTHERN OKAVANGO DELTA
Kadizora Camp is set between the Vumbura River and the Selinda Spillway lying in the remote northern part of the Okavango Delta. The camp overlooks a beautiful seasonal floodplain and giant Marulas, Sycamore figs, Jackalberry and Rain trees provide a canopy of shade throughout the camp.
The camp has just 13 ensuite tents in total – 10 luxury tents and 4 standard tents – which are all spacious and furnished in a classic safari style ensuring that time between activities is spent relaxing comfortably. There is small swimming pool on wooden decking with sunloungers reached a wooden walkway.
Kadizora is the only camp in the Okavango Delta to offer hot air ballooning. Other activities include open vehicle safaris, walking safaris and boating – mokoro excursions offer a traditional way to explore the meandering water channels while floating quietly amongst the water-lilies – a bird lovers’ paradise. There is the option to arrange a day trip to a traditional village where you can visit the church, the clinic, local primary school and meet family members of the camp staff. Fishing is available in season.
LOCATION
The camp is located in the northern Okavango Delta between Vumbura River and the Selinda Spillway in northern Botswana.
The flight time by light aircraft from Maun to Kadizora Camp is approximately 53 minutes and it is around 1 hour and 20 minutes flight from Kasane. On arrival you are met and transferred 10 minutes into camp.
CAMP
The spacious tents are well positioned for privacy with outdoor decking offering fabulous views of the surrounding area. All the tents have comfortable beds and are set on wooden decks with rugs scattered on the floor. The tents are comfortably furnished and have ensuite bathrooms with a feature bath and his and hers vanities, a fan, charging points and a safe. The luxury tents are larger than the standard tents and the entire front of the tent rolls up or down depending on the weather. The luxury tents also have an outdoor shower.
Meru-style tents form the main area of the camp and open onto a central deck and fire pit. The bar at Kadizora Camp is on a raised deck with a panoramic view of the floodplain where you can enjoy a picturesque Delta sunset with a sundowner. The campfire is the focal point from dawn to dusk and it is the perfect place to chat about the day’s adventures. There are tea and coffee facilities are available in the dining tent.
The food at Kadizora Camp is of a high standard and fresh ingredients are used as far as possible to create a delicious and varied menu. Mealtimes are based around the activities and are either served outdoors on the decking area or in the warmth of the dining room.
Dinner is a sociable affair, main courses are buffet-style, with plated starters and desserts. After dinner enjoy a drink around the campfire listening to the cacophony of night sounds.
There is also a small gift shop and small swimming pool overlooking the plains in front of the camp. WIFI is available in the public areas only.
ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE
Game Drives – in an open safari vehicle allows you to explore some of the varied vegetation this World Heritage site has to offer. Drive through semi-desert sands, dense Mopani woodlands and marshy floodplains. The area is home to a vast species of game including elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dogs, hyena, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, kudu, red letchwe, impala, honey badgers, hippos and crocodile, to name a few.
Boating and Mokoros – Kadizora Camp offers both boating and traditional mokoros which glide through the Delta water channels and provide an opportunity to view the aquatic wildlife from a close vantage point. The crystal, clear waters are filtered by large papyrus reed beds and is clean enough to drink. Both activities are subject to water levels around camp.
Hot Air Balloon flights – this is the only area in the Okavango Delta to offer hot air ballooning. Your Hot Air Balloon Safari begins with an early morning departure from Kadizora Camp, driving through the floodplains to the balloon launch site. On this pre-dawn safari you may be fortunate enough to see sightings of nocturnal wildlife. On arrival at the launch site you will be served tea or coffee while the balloon is being rigged and inflated ready for your flight. Hot air ballooning is available on request during the peak season for 15 April – end August and there is an extra charge for this activity.
Bush Walks – enjoy walking in the area around camp on foot with your experienced guide who will help you discover the small creatures and plants of the bush.
Cultural Visits – there is the option to arrange a day trip to a traditional village. Visit the church, the clinic, local primary school and meet family members of the camp staff.
Fishing – is available in season.
