KANANA CAMP – OKAVANGO DELTA
Kanana is set on the banks of the Xudum River in the southwest of the Okavango Delta and the area encompasses a necklace of islands dotted with palms, figs, ebony and knobthorn. The area is home to a huge amount of birds, plants and animals in a diverse habitat within the Okavango Delta eco system.
The annual floods transform parts of this concession into a true water paradise offering you the chance to experience magnificent game sightings during game drives as well as exploring the delta’s beautiful waterways by boat or Mokoro.
LOCATION
Kanana is located on the Xudum River in the southwest of the Okavango Delta on the private Kanana Concession in northern Botswana.
CAMP
Guests are accommodated in seven spacious twin and double bedded safari tents and each ensuite bathroom has a large walk in shower and luxurious fittings. Families are accommodated in a two-bedroomed tent sharing an ensuite bathroom with the addition of an outdoor shower – ideal for families in this child-friendly camp. The tents are well spaced and private whilst remaining within a comfortable distance from the main camp area.
The main area has a dining room, an al fresco deck, a bar, sitting area and campfire overlooking the Xudum River. There is a swimming pool at the camp.
The Sleep Out Deck offers you the opportunity to spend the night out under the African night sky sleeping out on a raised platform with a very comfortable bed covered in mosquito netting – a chance to get really closer to Africa!
ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE
Situated in the Kanana Concession the focus of activities at Kanana varies with the rising and falling levels of the Okavango Delta. Kanana’s private concession location allows guided walks, mokoro excursions and night drives in addition to game drives and motor boating. Wildlife viewing is superb with frequent predator sightings of lion, leopard and wild dog. The camp also has private access to one of the largest heronries not only in the Okavango Delta but Southern Africa and is an excellent area for birding with regular sightings of Pels Fishing Owl.
Morning and afternoon game drives – in open safari vehicles with afternoon game drives often continuing into the evening. When out on game drives our window seat guarantee ensures no more than four guests per vehicle and individual use of a camera mount.
Mokoro or motorboat – explore the crystal-clear waterways by and enjoy the magnificent variety of birds, plant and reptile species found in the area.
Birding – is spectacular with Kanana hosting a seasonal heronry that is one of the largest in Southern Africa.
Guided bush walks – are highly recommended as is fishing for tilapia, African pike and sharptooth catfish.
Fishing – is available throughout the year (with the exception of January and February).

Ker & Downey Botswana commits to match each donation from its own profits. For every full paying bed night booked in a Ker & Downey Botswana property, USD5 will be added to the invoice as a discretionary donation to the Chobe Impact.
Their historical support for Bana Ba Letsatsi (www.banabaletsatsi.org) and the Dinaka Rhino Conservation Fund will continue, but through Chobe Impact.
