MAXA CAMP – MAPULA AND SEKWANA CONCESSION – OKAVANGO DELTA
Maxa is perched on the banks overlooking the large, hippo frequented Maxa Lagoon which is located in the north eastern Okavango Delta. The camp is set well away from just one other camp in a private concession near the source of the Selinda Spillway.
This fabulous little camp is beautifully located to explore the surrounding landscape, which consists of networks of permanent lagoons fed by ephemeral channels and connect to expansive grassy floodplains and riverine woodland islands. A rich diversity of wildlife inhabits the area, and you can enjoy game drives, night drives, walking safaris, boating and mokoros.
LOCATION
Maxa Camp is located in the private MaPula and Sekwana Concession in the Okavango Delta.
CAMP
The camp has a very unique style in Botswana and has separate lounge and dining areas set under light, flowing canvas roofs, partially enclosed by traditional clay walls, and the design is complemented with handmade local furniture and comfortable rugs.
Situated between the lounge and dining areas is a natural courtyard with picnic style tables for meals in the shade or under the stars. A natural feature of the main area is a termite mound that originally helped form the island and it is here that you will be welcomed by the smells of freshly baked bread and muffins from Maxa’s wood fired outdoor oven.
A wonderful feature of the camp – set at the edge of the camp’s riverine forest tree overlooking the lagoon – is another cluster of Ebony trees forming a natural enclosure. Set underneath the trees is a comfortable sala with a cushioned day bed. Wooden steps lead up into the tree to an elevated deck with a suspended cargo net hammock where you can take in the beautiful views.
With just 4 tents plus one family tent – the stretch canvas tented rooms are are set on decks and have outdoor showers overlooking the lagoon. All the tents have an ensuite indoor bathroom, comfortable beds and are beautifully furnished. The Maxa family tent has two bedrooms and a shared ensuite bathroom along with a separate outdoor bathroom.
