GREAT PLAINS SELINDA SUITE – SELINDA RESERVE – LINYANTI
Set in one of the most pristine wilderness areas left on our planet, the luxurious and private Selinda Suite rests on the banks of the Selinda Spillway as it enters the Linyanti River.
The area has a sense of remoteness and the private 136,000-hectare Selinda Reserve boasts elephants by the thousands, regular sightings of the Selinda pack of African wild dogs as well as the famous Selinda Lion Pride recently feature in the National Geographic film “Birth of a Pride” by Dereck and Beverly Joubert.
The Selinda Suite is a two-bedroom tented villa and operates exclusively – you enjoy your own private game vehicle, safari guide, chef, manager/butler and a private entrance to your suite.
The suite offers private activities – safari drives, walks, boating, tracking, birding – to really appreciate the area and its wildlife.
LOCATION
The camp is located in the private Selinda Reserve in the Linyanti area of northern Botswana.
SUITE
The Suite is a two bedroomed tented villa under thatch with large bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms with copper baths and handmade rugs and an indoor shower. There is a large private wooden veranda and two private swimming/plunge pools with outdoor seating.
The two bedrooms are uniquely designed with its own colour palette and theme and incorporate textures of rope, hammocks, lots of space, nautical elements and salvaged wood. The beds are swathed with mosquito nets and look out over the flood plains.
The suite is airconditioned and has its own living and dining area beautifully furnished with leather sofas and dining chairs, reclaimed wooden furniture, rugs and wildlife photos on the walls. Outsie there is a small camp fire on the decking with views over the Selinda Spillway.
WILDLIFE AND ACTIVITIES
The safari drives, walks, boating, tracking, birding and other activities are designed to showcase the best wildlife the area has to offer – from leopards, elephants, hippos, wild dogs and lion and some of the 200 or more bird species in the area.
Game drives (day & night) – Duba Plain’s Toyota Land Cruisers are aptly named ‘Swamp Vehicles’ due to their extra-high suspension and absolutely huge tyres uniquely designed to traverse the floodplains for us. These are open-sided, canopied and customised for photographers (fold-down screens, raised roofs, photographic bars, multi-plug inverters). While the focus remains on the most comfortable times of day (early to mid-morning and late afternoon to evening) for drives it is very common in Duba Plains to spend full days out in the field having brunch delivered to the vehicles because the wildlife is so good. Very often safaris will continue into the night in search of nocturnal species.
Guided Walks – another huge benefit of staying within a private concession is the ability to appreciate the stunning landscape on foot without the noise of engines. Usually early morning or evening is the best time – wear good walking shoes, a hat and neutral coloured clothing and take binoculars. Walks are led by licensed guides with firearm training.
Motorized Boating – zipping through the Okavango Delta’s network of waterways is an invigorating way to get a sense of the scope of this huge wetland. Boating is a seasonal activity, typically between May and October but varies seasonally.
Catch-and-Release Fishing – this is a great activity during mid-day siesta. During January and February there is a moratorium on fishing. Catch-and-release fishing only.
Young Explorers Programme – Duba Plains Camp offers a full syllabus of bush craft skills for our young explorers. This is a complimentary programme and an extensive pack will be offered to eager children on arrival so they can learn about animal calls, how to track wildlife, and other facts and figures about the wild. At the end of a child’s stay the child will become a Young Explorer and Conservation Ambassador – ready to go out and tell the world about what they have learned and what they too can do to help protect this beautiful environment.
