SHINDE CAMP – SHINDE CONCESSION – OKAVANGO DELTA
Nestled on a lush palm island in the heart of the northern Okavango Delta and on a private concession, Shinde is an intimate, classic camp located on the edge of Shinde Lagoon which teems with animal and birdlife. The camps unique main area comprises of a multi-tiered dining room and lounge which is set under canvas under the shade of ebony and mangosteen trees.
Shinde was rebuilt in 2020 and was one of the first in the Okavango Delta. The new tents and main area provide a luxury experience with a touch of historical charm – a comfortable and elegant safari experience. The camp is powered by full solar electricity
LOCATION
Shinde Camp is set in a private concession in the northern Okavango Delta in northern Botswana.
CAMP
There are just seven spacious and comfortable tents at Shinde plus one family tent with two bedrooms. Each tent has a large bedroom, ensuite bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower and there is the choice of either a double or twin bed configuration on comfortable three-quarter, extra length or king-sized beds. The rooms have full solar electricity, standing and ceiling fans, yoga mats and hair dryers.
The camp has a tree house dining room, a bar, sitting areas, a library and campfire overlooking permanent water of the Okavango Delta and the camp has a swimming pool.
There is one spacious family tent at Shinde which has two bedrooms, a shared ensuite bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower, hot and cold running water and flush toilet. Roomy enough to sleep a family of 5 the tents are well spaced and private. Shinde takes children from the age of 7 years old.
Shinde Footsteps is an exclusive ‘camp within a camp’ offering personal service in a private setting. The camp has its own main area with a bar, lounge, dining room, photo editing suite, outside fire area and a small plunge pool. ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE
Shinde is situated on a private concession which allows guided walks, Mokoro excursions and night drives in addition to game drives and motorboat trips. Shinde’s excellent location in the Okavango Delta ensures a combination of permanent water access for year-round water activities and large dry areas for game drive routes. This blend of environments provides the habitat for a consistently wide variety of wildlife, including the elusive sitatunga antelope and a healthy population of leopards.
Game drives – are conducted by a personal guide in comfortable specially designed game drive vehicles. When out on game drives everyone enjoys a window seat with just four guests per vehicle and individual use of a camera mount.
Night drives – are available after dinner offering the opportunity of seeing nocturnal inhabitants of the area.
Mokoro – experience the incredible bird, plant and reptile species found in the aquatic habitat of the Okavango Delta such as sitatunga, fish eagles, painted reed frogs and malachite kingfishers.
Boat Excursions – explore the Okavango Deltaʼs crystal clear waterways by motorboat and enjoy the magnificent variety of bird, plant and reptile species found in the area.
Walking Safari – for the more adventurous take a guided bush walk to enjoy a greater understanding of this diverse environment which features red lechwe bounding through marshy areas, a kaleidoscope of birdlife, plus predators and big game.
Fishing – is available throughout the year (with exception of January and February) with excellent bream fishing from May to September and good chances of landing tigerfish during September to mid-November.
Shinde is also a wonderful option for honeymooners – stay in a luxurious tent and enjoy additonal special touches which indlude a private dinner and bottle of bubbly whilst also being offered a slightly more relaxed pace than a normal safari routine.
