Canyon Lodge – A Dreamlike Retreat Among the Boulders of Namibia’s South
Set against the ancient and majestic backdrop of the Gondwana Canyon Park, Canyon Lodge offers an enchanting oasis near the world’s second-largest canyon. Nestled amongst massive granite boulders, this lodge blends rustic romance, breath-taking scenery, and quiet serenity, making it an unmissable destination for explorers of Namibia’s south. Self-drive access via Keetmanshoop is excellent, and the lodge offers warm hospitality in a surreal setting.
Location
Located just 20 kilometres from the iconic Fish River Canyon, Canyon Lodge is tucked into the heart of the Gondwana Canyon Park. It’s perfectly positioned for early morning canyon excursions and evening sundowners among the rocks.
The Lodge
Canyon Lodge features 30 charming stone chalets, each set discreetly among the boulders and adorned with thatched roofs, wood-beamed ceilings, and antique furnishings. The main lodge building—an old farmhouse—houses a welcoming lounge, bar, and restaurant offering hearty Namibian fare. A crystal-clear swimming pool provides a refreshing break under the desert sun, and a lush garden shaded by palm trees adds a touch of green to this arid region.
Experiences
Daily guided excursions to the Fish River Canyon offer awe-inspiring vistas, while scenic drives, nature walks, and horseback safaris allow guests to connect deeply with the land. The lodge also offers storytelling evenings about the region’s geology, ecology, and conservation successes.
Giving Back
Gondwana’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement is deeply woven into every guest experience—guests are not just visitors, but participants in a larger story of ecological restoration. The nearby Gondwana Park conservation efforts have restored wildlife populations to this previously overgrazed landscape, and the area now teems with oryx, springbok, and mountain zebra.
