Twyfelfontein Country Lodge is set in the heart of one of the world’s most magnificent wilderness regions. Nestled along the mountains the lodge blends in beautifully with its surrounding environment.
Using natural stone, carefully selected paint colours and thatched roofs the lodge’s design compliments the sandstone rock formations with minimum visual impact on the landscape. There are magnificent views from the deck over the Huab Valley, desert plains and distant mountains.

LOCATION
The lodge is set in the Twyfelfontein area of Damaraland in northern Namibia.
Access is by road from Windhoek which is around 5.5 hours’ drive or Swakopmund which is around 4 hours drive.
LODGE
The lodge offers 56 beautifully appointed airconditioned rooms of various layout and sleeping arrangements with a choice of twin, double, triple and interleading rooms. Half the rooms have a view over the plains and the other half a view of the red sandstone mountains and large spotlights light up the mountains at night providing for a majestic atmosphere. Rooms on the mountain side do have a bit more shelter from environmental elements, as well as a bit more privacy from the main walk-ways between the rooms and the main building.
All rooms have ceiling fans, ensuite bathrooms, mosquito nets and electronic safes for safekeeping of valuables.
The rustic main area is housed under thatch and includes a comfortable lounge area with leather sofas arranged in different seating areas, a restaurand and a bar with glorious views over the desert landscape. The lodge has a curio shop and there is WIFI and cell reception in the main area. Outside there is a swimming pool with sun loungers to cool off during the heat of the day.
ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE
Ephemeral (Dry) River Drive – experienced field guides will take you on an exciting nature drive filled with interesting facts pertaining to the area, its history and wildlife. Be on the lookout to spot birds of prey, antelope, fairy circles, Welwitchia Mirabilis and many other interesting geological formations. Your guides will look for herds of free roaming desert adapted elephants and will do their best to meet up with these magnificent giants. The nature drive returns over valleys of savanna, small dunes, the dry riverbed and interesting geological formations. A stop at Welwitchia Hill allows you to get off the vehicle and enjoy a sundowner and enjoy the sun setting across the desert and distant mountains.
Rock Engravings & Petroglyphs – a trip to the rock engravings and paintings, The Burnt Mountain and The Organ Pipes accompanied by a resident guide. Many of the rock formations are the products of prehistoric volcanic action. Fascinating plants in the area include the Welwitschia Mirabilis, the Moringa and a variety of Commiphora species.
The Living Museum of the Damara – experience the daily routine in a traditional museum, including traditional blacksmith (making of weapons and tools), tanning of leather (production of traditional clothes), jewellery and crafts, dancing, singing and traditional games, Holy Fire and fire making and more. Then follow on a bushwalk where the women collect plants from the bush for food, perfume and medicine and where the men show you how to set up traps, snares and how they used to hunt in the old times.
Guided Hiking Trails – guided morning and afternoon hiking trails are available. During these trails you can encounter fascinating plants in the area, including the Welwitschia mirabilis, the Moringa and a variety of Commiphora species.
The Real Adam and Eve – this is a drive to the Adam & Eve Rock to view engravings and a small bushman painting before continuing to the Real Adam and Eve painting. The story behind the paintings & engravings will be explained by the guide.
