Namushasha River Lodge – Untamed Beauty on the Banks of the Kwando
Set on the edge of the Kwando River in Namibia’s lush Zambezi Region, Namushasha River Lodge offers an unforgettable immersion into the country’s wild and watery northeast. This is a place where elephants stroll by at sunset, hippos grunt in the shallows, and the air is alive with birdsong—a sanctuary for safari lovers seeking life along the water.
Location
Namushasha lies just south of Bwabwata National Park, deep in Namibia’s Zambezi Region (formerly Caprivi Strip). This is one of the country’s most biodiverse areas, where wetlands, riverine forests, and savannahs support a rich variety of wildlife. The lodge is accessible by road and ideally located for exploring nearby parks and conservancies.
The Lodge
Built with thatch, timber, and soul, the lodge features 24 river-facing chalets raised on stilts above the floodplains. Each chalet has an en-suite bathroom, private deck, and sweeping views over the river. The main area includes a welcoming restaurant, open-air bar, reading lounge, and a swimming pool that overlooks the water. Wooden walkways connect everything, keeping guests immersed in nature without sacrificing comfort.
Experiences
Activities include boat safaris on the Kwando, guided game drives into Bwabwata and Mudumu National Parks, birdwatching, cultural visits to nearby Mayuni village, and catch-and-release fishing. Sunset cruises are a highlight, often accompanied by elephant sightings and rich reflections on the water. Namushasha also supports a Heritage Centre celebrating local traditions and crafts, empowering the surrounding community while sharing its story with the world.
Practical Information
Open all year. Best for couples, wildlife lovers, photographers, and adventurers. Fully-catered stays include meals and optional activities. The Zambezi Region is a world apart from Namibia’s deserts—greener, wilder, and utterly captivating. Namushasha River Lodge lets you experience it with style, sensitivity, and soul.
