LAKE KIVU SERENA HOTEL – LAKE KIVU
Lake Kivu Serena Hotel overlooks a private beach near the town of Gisenyi in Rwanda and minutes from the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo and the city of Goma.
Set on the shores of Lake Kivu, Lake Kivu Serena is an ideal stopover point on your drive to or from Volancoes National Park and is an interesting area to enjoy activities in and around Africa’s sixth largest lake.
You can trek to see the gorillas or golden monkeys at Volcanoes National Park from the hotel, but it is a 45 minute road journey which makes for a very early start. Instead enjoy a couple of nights stay on the lake enroute and discover a different and very beautiful area of Rwanda whilst staying at a comfortable hotel with a fabulous swimming pool. Activities include canoeing and jet skiing, cultural visits, boating on the lake or visit a local volcano or hot springs.
LOCATION
Lake Kivu Serena Hotel is located on the north shore of Lake Kivu in the town of Gisenyi in in Rwanda’s Western Province. Access is via a road transfer from Kigali which is approximately 3.5 hours’ drive.

All the rooms at the Lake Kivu Serena have been designed to be soothing and comfortable with an elegant Pan-African décor and a private balcony with views of the hotel’s private beach and Lake Kivu beyond. The rooms all have spacious layouts, ensuite bathrooms and sumptuous furnishings, and modern comforts include complimentary wireless Internet, air conditioning and flat-screen televisions with cable and satellite channels.
The hotel’s Superior Rooms are appointed with one king bed and a lavish bathroom. One room offers access and amenities for physically challenged guests.
Family Rooms feature two queen beds and a lavish bathroom.
Suites feature a king bed, a lavish bathroom with both a tub and a shower, an integrated workspace, a private sitting room with a guest washroom and a furnished veranda overlooking Lake Kivu.

Young Women Destination – this is a handcraft-based association made up of women who dropped out of school due to unplanned pregnancies. It offers handcraft and traditional dance classes.
Visit the Volcanic Hot Springs – referred to as ‘magic waters’ the Amashuza Hot Springs are a 15-minute drive from the hotel. The minerals in these waters are known to contain medicinal values and a soak is thought to heal muscle disorders and numerous other ailments.
The Nyiragongo Volcano – is one of the most active volcanoes in the world famous for the lava lakes that have formed in the summit crater. The hike to the summit takes approximately four to six hours and can be difficult in humid conditions, but you are rewarded by sightings of rare birds and animals such as monkeys, bushbucks and chimpanzees, and the summit offers wonderful views of Gisenyi Town.

Mountain Biking – offers you an experience on biking trails along Lake Kivu.
Volcanoes National Park – a 45-minute drive from the hotel, Volcanoes National Park offers volcano, gorilla and golden monkey treks.
