CHAKA CAMP – NORTH SERENGETI AND NDUTU
Chaka Camp offers an intimate bush experience in the Serengeti ecosystem – designed to be lightweight to move seasonally. Chaka Camp follows the migration south to Ndutu from December through to March. From May through November the Camp is located in Northern Serengeti just minutes away from the Mara River. Watch as the herds gather on the riverbank and then take the first leap into the water – the Camp’s location allows for easy access to several crossing points along the river.
Chaka Camp operates off grid and relies on a custom-built solar system for its power. Room fabrics are handwoven African design and the camp’s furniture was commissioned and crafted by artisans in Arusha, Tanzania.
LOCATION
Chaka Camp is located in the north of the Serengeti National Park from May until September and moves with the migration to the Ndutu areain northern Tanzania from December to March. The nearest airstrip is Kogatende in the north which is around half an hour’s drive from camp and Ndutu in the south which is around 35 minutes drive from camp.
CAMP
The camp has just 10 guest tents including one family tent – all with private and shady decking overlooking the Serengeti ecosystem. All the tents are furnished with comfortable beds, a writing desk and a digital safe, and have ensuite bathrooms with a flush toilet, double washbasins with running water and safari style bucket showers. Early morning tea and coffee is bought to your tent every morning.
The main area has separate lounge and dining areas and the camp has a library and a central charging unit with universal adaptor. Each group eats privately in the dining area with a choice of Swahili cuisine and more familiar but equally delicious alternatives. The camp chefs are able to cater for many diets and you can choose to enjoy a picnic breakfast or lunch out in the wilds of the Serengeti. Enjoy drinks around the camp fire before and after dinner.
The camp is eco-friendly and has solar-powered electricity, recycles plastic and tin and uses organically grown local produce when available. All the furniture is designed and built in Arusha, Tanzania.
