LEMALA NGORONGORO – NGORONGORO CRATER
Lemala Ngorongoro is set in a delightful ancient acacia forest close to the rim of the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater with just 9 spacious and very comfortable tents. As it is located next to the quiet crater access road on the north east side it is a quick and easy drive down on to the crater floor in the morning.
Game drives from camp may start as early as 6.15am and guests can be down among Ngorongoro’s abundant wildlife on the floor within 10-15 minutes – crucial for photographers who demand the best light conditions. Escorted walks are also available into the forest and along the crater rim with an armed ranger and Maasai guide.
LOCATION
Lemala Ngorongoro is located on the Ngorongoro Crater rim and northern Tanzania.
CAMP
Lemala Ngorongoro has 9 spacious tents that are positioned carefully to provide privacy and with minimal impact on the pristine forest environment. They accommodate two queen-size beds and as it can get cool on the Ngorongoro Crater rim at night little luxuries like warm winter-weight duvets, hot water bottles and gas heaters ensure a cosy night’s sleep. The roomy en-suite bathrooms contain a dressing area, flush toilet and a large safari-style shower.
The tents have an outside deck offering beautiful views over the area and have 24-hour solar lighting and outside loungers from which to enjoy early morning teas and coffees and refreshing afternoon gin and tonics.
The mess tent is beautifully furnished with grand sofas, lamps, bookshelves and corner cabinets in old wood, chests and rugs. In the evening, guests can gather around the campfire to exchange tales of the day’s safari followed by a sumptuous hearty meal.
ACTIVITIES
Game Drives – you can enjoy game drives from here on shared or on exclusive use basis. Our vehicles have charging facilities and a fridge with cold drinks. Our vehicles are driven by excellent guides who will ensure you see the best of what Ngorongoro has to offer.
Guided Rim Walk – an educational and interactive walk along the edge of the Crater with a Ranger and Maasai guide. Your guests will learn about the uses of the flora and fauna in the daily lives of the local Maasai, spot wildlife tracks and experience the fresh outdoors of the Ngorongoro Highlands. The walk lasts about 1.5 hours and is available in the late afternoon from 1600.
Maasai Boma Experience – an authentic glimpse into the distinctive Maasai culture is a must whilst in Tanzania. Preservation of their proud traditions has set the Maasai apart from other indigenous groups in Tanzania. We offer a memorable opportunity to interactively experience the Maasai way of life through an excursion to a traditional boma where you will be able to participate in a variety of unique cultural activities.
Lemala Cubs Kids Activities – Tanzania has great appeal for families. Seeing animals is very exciting for children and nothing can prepare a parent for the delight of watching their child’s reaction when they catch sight of a lion, giraffe or elephant for the very first time. Lemala Cubs offers guests under the age of 12 a wide range of wonderful opportunities to experience and enjoy the magic of the Africa bush. These activities are fun, educational and interesting, and show future generations the need for conservation of Africa’s wildlife.
Some Lemala Cubs activities may include identifying animals and birds, learning how to throw (blunt) spears and use bows and arrows like the Maasai, being taught tracking and spoor identification techniques by our guides, walking with the Maasai to hear stories about their culture and way of life in the bush and even joining the chefs in the kitchen to prepare meals or roasting marshmallows over the campfire before bed
LEMALA NGORONGORO IS OPEN ALL YEAR ROUND.
THE CAMP WELCOMES FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN 3 YEARS AND OLDER AND THERE IS A KIDS CLUB AND FAMILY ACCOMMODATION. TO MAKE THE MOST OF THIS CAMP WE RECOMMEND THAT CHILDREN BE AGED 7 YEARS AND OLDER.
