Located in the Selous Game Reserve, Rufiji River Camp is stunningly located high on the banks of the Rufiji river with sweeping views across out to the river from the deck.
The Rufiji River is a sprawling waterway with 5 distinctive ‘lakes’ all joined together with a myriad of channels.
This is the only Game area in Tanzania to offer a safari on the river and Selous is also home to large numbers of buffalo and lion, as well as a healthy population of wild dogs.
Rufiji River Camp enjoys a fabulous position looking over this wide, sprawling waterway. The camp was redesigned and renovated in 2010 with much larger, airy tents built up on wooden platforms and new management in 2012 again improving standards of accommodation and service.
There are 14 en suite tents individually sited with the length of the tent alongside the river bank. Each tent has an extended and shaded veranda, where guests can relax between game excursions and enjoy the wildlife activity always present in and along the river.
There is a constant flow of animals coming down to drink at the river offering a permanent show to visitors of the camp. The water is usually full of hundreds of hippos as well as groups of crocodiles that laze in the sun on the sandbanks in the river.
Electricity and hot water are powered by solar panels, while UHV-filtered drinking water is available throughout camp including in the tents which are all mosquito proofed. There is a covered swimming pool situated in the camp between reception and mess area.
Whilst staying at Rufiji River Camp boating safaris and walking safaris are available as well as vehicle safaris in open, adapted 4wd vehicles. All game activities are led by the camps guides.
Boating safaris in the Rufiji River are in flat bottomed boats with shade roofing and walking safaris are with guides and armed rangers..
