SINGITA SASAKWA LODGE – SINGITA GRUMETI RESERVE – WESTERN SERENGETI
Singita Sasakwa Lodge sits along a rocky promontory perched above the rolling plains of the private Grumeti Reserve in western Serengeti and it is among the most deluxe lodges built in East Africa.
The fabulous view from the lodge is an ever-changing tapestry of grasslands, clouds and wildlife as they move across the landscape. The lodge has long elegant hallways and inviting sitting rooms and is built in the style of a stately Edwardian manor house.
Singita Sasakwa Lodge has nine private cottages and a Hillside Suite – each with its own infinity pool. Enjoy fabulous wildlife, a stunning setting, luxurious accommodation and magical al fresco dinners in the courtyard under a starlit night sky with the vast Serengeti plains below.
LOCATION
Singita Sasakwa Lodge is located in the Singita Grumeti Reserve in western Serengeti in northern Tanzania. The nearest airstrip is Singita Sasakwa which is around 10 minutes’ drive from the lodge.
LODGE
There are a number of cottages and suites to choose from including one, two, three and four bedroomed cottages and a Hillside Suite.
The 6 One bedroom cottages all have an ensuite bathroom with inside shower and bath, separate lounge, separate dressing area and private plunge pool. The cottages are very private and all cottages are equipped with air-conditioning, overhead fans, minibar and fridge, tea/coffee station, digital safe, hairdryer, bathroom amenities, direct dial telephone, veranda and plunge pool.
The 2 Two bedroom cottages both have one double room with an ensuite bathroom with shower and bath, a separate dressing area and one twin room with an ensuite bathroom with shower and bath. The two bedrooms share a central lounge and private plunge pool.
The Three bedroom cottage has one double room with ensuite bathroom with a shower and bath and a separate dressing area, one double and one twin each with ensuite bathroom with shower and bath. The bedrooms share a central lounge and private plunge pool.
Four bedroom cottage has one double master bedroom with an with ensuite bathroom with shower and bath and separate dressing area, one double and two twins each with ensuite bathroom with shower and bath. The rooms share a private plunge pool, a large lounge / dining room and a small satellite kitchen.
The Hillside Suite is set alongside Singita Sasakwa Lodge and is a luxurious oversized suite with private vehicle access. There are beautiful views over the Serengeti you can enjoy a private escape for two. The Suite has dramatic frameless glass doors and windows, two wooden outdoor decks and a private rim-flow pool – all butler-serviced including a private game vehicle, field guide, “bar-deli” and exclusive in-room dining.
ACTIVITIES
Spanning over 350,000 acres of untouched wilderness, Singita Grumeti is located in the western Serengeti in northern Tanzania, forming part of the Serengeti Mara ecosystem.
Game drives – daily game drives with professional guides and trackers provide the perfect opportunity to get up close to Africa’s incredible animals. The afternoon game drive includes a night drive at the end. Game drives are all conducted in Land Cruisers, each accommodating a maximum of six guests and during your stay you are likely to spot a great variety of wildlife including cheetah, bearded wildebeest, bat eared fox, black rhino, Maasai giraffe, lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, zebra and the rare Colobus monkey.
Walking Safaris – get out and stretch your legs in the bush with a professional and experienced guide. This activity is available to those 16 years and older.
Families – all activities at the lodge are tailored to specifically suit the interests of each family. In the interest of safety, children may participate in game drives and bush walks at the discretion of dedicated Field Guides. The lodge also offers childminding services, as well as an array of activities to keep little ones engaged and entertained. Singita’s Mini Rangers Course is a customised, fun-filled programme that opens up a whole new world to young explorers. It includes learning how to track animals; astronomy; bush survival techniques; game, tree and bird-spotting competitions as well as nature quizzes.
Community tour – visit the Environmental Education Centre which was developed for the young people of the local communities to meet the students and learn about the programme. The Centre is dedicated to instilling in its students an understanding of the Serengeti Ecosystem and provides education on the rationale behind “protected areas” and on general, local and global environmental issues.
Boutique and Gallery – not your regular curio shop, you will find original treasures that have been gathered from all corners of the African continent.
Premier Wine Boutique – Singita’s cellars are home to some of the most sought-after private reserves and vintage wines and whether you are a connoisseur or just enjoy the occasional glass of wine, experienced sommeliers will introducing you to a vast selection of varietals from all over the world.
Spa, Tennis and Gym – rejuvenate and pamper yourself at the spa or work out in the fully equipped gym.
Swimming – Singita Sasakwa Lodge offers an expansive swimming pool next to the main house in addition to private infinity pools at each cottage and at the private villa.
Balloon Safari – charter a hot air balloon for an unforgettable ride over the treetops of the Serengeti. You’ll skim above the grasslands and acacia forests, and at other times ascend to 1,000 feet to see the enormity of the reserve.
Canine Unit Experience – visit the SGF Canine Unit to meet the handlers and learn more about how this specialized anti-poaching unit works to protect the Grumeti region in the Serengeti. Watch as the dogs use their skills to detect a piece of wildlife contraband hidden for the demonstration. If the dogs are working on tracking, you may be able to experience their ability to track a person through the bush. Due to the sensitive and costly nature of the programme, a donation amount of $500 per person has been set. A minimum of 2 and maximum of 6 guests is allowed per demonstration.

THE LODGE WELCOMES CHILDREN OF ALL AGES AND HAS DEDICATED FAMILY ACCOMMODATION AND THE MINI RANGERS COURSE. THERE ARE BABYSITTING SERVICES AVAILABLE AND TAILOR MADE ACTIVITIES TO SUITE EACH FAMILY
