NANZHILA PLAINS AND LAKE CAMPS - KAFUE NATIONAL PARK
Nanzhila Safaris operates in the closest true safari area in Zambia to the Victoria Falls and enjoys nearly 3000 sqkm almost to itself. An incredible variety of wildlife and birding species are to be found across the 2 magnificent camp locations which compliment each other perfectly - Plains Camp and her rolling grasslands and Lake Camp on the game rich shorelines where the Musa River joins Lake Itezhi-tezhi.
Both Plains and Lake Camps are small, intimate bush camps beautifully set overlooking game rich areas. Game drives and safari walks across both camps reveal a wide variety of wildlife and bird species including 4 out of the Big 5.
The camps are located in the Kafue National Park in Zambia. Plains Camp is located in the southern section of Kafue National Park and Lake Camp is located 3.5 hrs north on the shores of Lake Itezhi-tezhi. Access is by road transfer from Lusaka or private charter flight.
Nanzhila Plains has 3 en-suite safari tents and 3 en-suite chalets all of which have beautiful views of the dambo and the gauzed windows allowing all the wonderful sounds of the African night to reach you clearly!
The 3 chalets can each accommodate two guests and are situated along the tree line, giving guests an unobstructed view of the dambo and the chalet’s ensuite facilities include a hot and cold shower, toilet and double basins.
The 3 meru-style safari tents can accommodate up to six people. They have separate en suite toilets, single basins and hot-and-cold shower areas for greater privacy and their walk-in structures provide fantastic views of the bush and the dambo. They are lit with solar and hot water is provided by donkey boilers.
Lake Camp has just 3 uniquely designed tented chalets looking over the Musa River and Lake Itezhi-tezhi shoreline. The tented chalets are all situated along the tree line giving you an unobstructed view of the floodplain and shoreline ahead which has a constant flow of wildlife. The chalets have comfortable beds with mosquito nets with large ensuite bathrooms and vanity area and expansive covered verandas for midday game viewing.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner times are flexible - meals are wholesome and prepared in the traditional way and are served either in the boma or at the adjoining communal fireplace/outdoor dining area. Local beers, house wines, soft drinks and bottled water are available as are a selection of imported spirits and South African wines.
ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE
Nanzhila Plains - it is likely that you will see around 12 different antelope species including sable, roan, defassa waterbuck, lichtenstein’s hartebeest, kudu, eland, wildebeest, common reedbuck, oribi, impala and duiker to name a few. You will also stand a good chance of adding lion, elephant, cheetah and wild dog and there is a good number of leopard. Buffalo and hippo are usually seen further north near Lake Itezhi-tezhi.
The camp is often visited by a family of honey badgers leaving chaos and delight in their wake. Nanzhila also offers superb sightings of serval as well as special nocturnal creatures such as bushbabies, civet, genet and many more.
The focus of Lake Camp is exploring the Southern Kafue wildlife that is found around Lake Itezhi-tezhi. Here, the mega herbivores like elephant, buffalo and hippo are more common than down on the Plains and so the incredible diversity and variety that Nanzhila is known for delivering simply gets broader with the addition of Lake Camp. In addition to the variety of species, the open floodplains and shorelines around the edges of Lake Itezhi-tezhi make for a stunning wildlife experience. Big cats can be seen from both camps.
The Kafue is home to world class birding including Black-cheeked love bird, wattled crane, racket-tailed rollers and Pel’s Fishing Owl. The bird list includes over 500 species.
Game Drives – a great way to cover lots of ground and see wildlife close up with a professional guide. Visit waterholes and enjoy a sundowner drink whilst watching the sun go down.
Bush walks – get closer to wildlife and see the little things that you often miss in the vehicle. Track animals on foot and learn about the flora and fauna around camp.
