SINGITA SABORA TENTED CAMP – SINGITA GRUMETI RESERVE – WESTERN SERENGETI

Singita’s Sabora Camp is a luxurious 9 suited tented camp set in the private Grumeti Reserve in the the western Serengeti.  Overlooking the vast plains this restorative sanctuary under canvas strikes the perfect balance between classic safari adventure and timeless modernity.

Private meditation decks and secluded outdoor salas with daybeds invite you to completely unwind while the seamless flow between spacious in and outdoor living areas connects you with the sights and sounds of the bush inbetween game drives and safari walks.

The area offers superb game-viewing opportunities all year round and the camp is set on the wildebeest migration route.  Activities include 4 x 4 game drives and guided game walks on foot to really get closer to Africa and the camp has a spa and swimming pool.

LOCATION

The camp is located in the Grumeti Reserve in the western Serengeti in northern Tanzania.  Access is via a light aircraft flight from Kilimanjaro or Arush which takes just over an hour.  The camp is around 46 – 60 minutes by game drive from the airstrip.

CAMP

The nine self contained suites all include private pantries, dining and fitness areas as well as meditation decks where you can rest and relax.  The suites have outdoor salas with secluded daybeds overlooking one of the two waterholes where you can enjoy game-viewing from your tent.

With the tented suites set close to the ground every you will really feel closer to Africa and bespoke glass panelling brings the Serengeti plains inside. Echoing the earthy colour palette of the bush, modern interpretations of campaign furniture evoke the timeless spirit of East African adventures.

The main lodge area offers a unique ‘guest deli’ which features wicker baskets and fridges filled with gourmet bites where you can select treats to enjoy in in your suite  There is a separate pool area, two intimate dining spaces and an open-plan bar and lounge.  Halaal meals and other diets are available on request – please book in advance.

Sabora is powered by clean, renewable energy supplied by an on-site solar PV system.

ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE

Spanning over 350,000 acres of untouched wilderness, Singita Grumeti is located in northern Tanzania forming part of the Serengeti Mara ecosystem. Singita Grumeti offers visitors a front-row seat to the Great Migration as well as countless other wildlife experiences all year round. With a landscape that combines grassy plains with riverine forests and thorny scrubland the area is home to a huge variety and vast number of big game and wildlife you might see include: bat-eared fox, buffalo, cheetah, Colobus monkey, eland, elephant, many types of gazelle, jackal, leopard, lion, Maasai giraffe, topi, wildebeest and zebra.

Game Drive – daily game drives with professional guides and trackers offer the opportunity to get up close to wildlife while spot lit night drives reveal the magic of the nocturnal wildlife.  Game drives are all in state-of-the-art Land Cruisers with a maximum of six guests.

Community Visit – visit the Environmental Education Centre which was developed for the young people of the local communities to meet the students and learn about the programme. The Centre is dedicated to instilling in its students an understanding of the Serengeti Ecosystem and provides education on the rationale behind “protected areas” and on general, local and global environmental issues.

Premier Wine – Singita’s cellars are home to some of the most sought-after private reserves and vintage wines the country has to offer. Whether you are a connoisseur or just enjoy the occasional glass of wine the camp’s experienced sommeliers will introduce you to a vast selection of wines from all over the world.

Spa – the Singita wellness philosophy includes a number of treatments offered at Sabora Spa.

Gym – enjoy working out with picturesque views of the plains allowing you to keep an eye on the wildlife.

Swimming – Singita Sabora Tented Camp has a pool at the main tented lounge area.

Singita Balloon Safari – charter a hot air balloon for an unforgettable ride over the treetops of the Serengeti. You’ll skim above the grasslands and acacia forests, and at other times ascend to 1 000 feet to see the enormity of the reserve.

Canine Unit Experience – visit the SGF Canine Unit to meet the handlers and learn more about how this specialised anti-poaching unit works to protect this region in the Serengeti. If the dogs are working on tracking you may be able to experience their ability to track a person through the bush. Due to the sensitive and costly nature of the programme a donation amount of $500 per person has been set. A minimum of 2 and maximum of 6 guests is allowed per demonstration.

THE CAMP WELCOMES FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN AGED 10 YEARS AND OLDER.  ALL NORMAL SAFARI ACTIVITIES ARE TAILOR MADE TO SUITE EACH FAMILY.  IN THE INTERESTS OF SAFETY, THE PARTICIPATION OF CHILDREN IN GAME ACTIVITIES IS AT THE DISCRETION OF YOUR GUIDE.
