ASILIA LITTLE OLIVER’S CAMP – TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

Little Oliver’s is situated a kilometre downstream from Oliver’s in the remote southeast of Tarangire National Park in northern Tanzania. In this region, the landscape is diverse, ranging from grasslands to areas of ancient baobabs.  The camp is small and intimate with only 5 luxury ensuite tents and the entire camp can be booked by groups of families or friends.

LOCATION

Little Oliver’s Camp is located in the remote south eastern area of the Tarangire National Park in northern Tanzania

CAMP

Little Oliver’s has five separate, thatched ensuite tents in total all with fantastic views with king sized beds with the option of being twins and doubles. One of the tents can be made into a triple on request. Each tent features an indoor and outdoor shower and bathrooms are ensuite with both an indoor shower and outdoor shower which offers great views of the surrounding area. The bathrooms are fully plumbed with running water and flush loos and hot water is always available and provided by solar heaters.

Meals are cooked in camp and served al fresco whenever possible. Start the day with a continental breakfast or bacon and eggs. Lunch is a light buffet and dinner is a three-course sit-down meal. Every week the camp hosts a big barbecue for all guests. If you’d like to spend more time out in the bush the camp will prepare a picnic breakfast or lunch.

Little Oliver’s Camp can accommodate a family of up to 4 with children aged 5 years and over. Your family will be accommodated in a comfortable tent with en-suite facilities and an authentic outside bucket shower.

Little Oliver’s supports local communities: their produce is sourced in Arusha and honey is from a local women’s project.

ACTIVITIES

Throughout the year Tarangire is home to large herds of elephants and buffalo and a high concentration of big cats. There are also animals such as wild dogs, kudu, oryx and gerenuks that won’t be found in the north of Tanzania. And for birders – there are more than 550 species many of which are attracted to the park’s swamps.

At the end of the rains in April and May, the lush, green grasslands are dotted with wildflowers. During the dry season from August until October, herds of buffalo gather on the floodplains in front of camp. At this point Tarangire contains the highest concentration of mammals in any of Tanzania’s national parks. The rains return in November when the migratory birds arrive.

Game Drives – Drives are offered twice daily in the cooler mornings and evenings. Most  game drives are in an open game-viewing vehicle – this lets you sit at different levels and gives everyone a window seat.  The open vehicles have power points where you can recharge your devices and are fitted with fridges to keep your drinks cool. Note that families with children under 12 must book a private game-viewing vehicle.

Night Game Drives – there is also the opportunity to enjoy an evening dame drive to try and see the nocturnal wildlife such as genets, porcupine, shrub hare and predators.

Walking safari – walking is a speciality of Oliver’s Camp and can take an hour, a morning or an afternoon.  Walking in these natural areas gives you an exhilarating feeling of adventure. Although you’ll usually get close to large mammals such as elephant, giraffe, buffalo or lion walking safaris are very safe and are accompanied by an experienced and an armed national park ranger.
