Rwanda, known as the Land of 1,000 hills, is culturally rich and ecologically diverse. Its economy is primarily based on subsistence agriculture and it produces and exports some of the world’s finest tea and coffee. Rwanda’s capital is Kigali and it boasts three main National Parks.
Perhaps the best known is the Virunga Mountains which span the borders of Rwanda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Uganda. This area, protected by all three countries, is the home of the endangered Mountain Gorilla Gorilla gorilla berengei.
