HOODIA DESERT LODGE
Hoodia Desert Lodge is a family owned and managed lodge set close to Sossusvlei and surrounded by majestic mountains on the banks of the Tsauchab River. A 20 minute drive will bring you to the Sesriem Gate which is the entrance to the world famous red sand-dunes of the Sossusvlei.
The lodge has just 11 beautifully furnished and luxurious thatched and partly tented chalets with fabulous views over the desert and mountains. All the rooms have air-conditioning and ensuite bathrooms and the lodge has a superb swimming pool to cool off inbetween excursions.

LOCATION
The lodge is located around 300km and 4 hours’ drive from Windheok in Namibia’s Namib-Naukluft National Park – just 20 minutes’ drive from the Sesriem Gate into Sossusvlei in southern Namibia.
The lodge can be accessed by road and is situated on the C19 5km from the turn-off to Sesriem in a southern direction. You will see the entrance to the lodge on your left hand side when coming from Sesriem and on the right when coming from Maltahohe.
LODGE
The lodge has just 11 luxurious thatched and partly tented chalets which are well-spaced for a high degree of privacy. All the chalets have ensuite bathrooms with open air showers and a generous bathtub. The rooms are equipped with a coffee station, fridge, mosquito net and outside there is a private shaded deck with sun loungers.
The main area has a comfortable lounge with sofas and chairs with African artifacts and wall art, a stunning restaurant with a centred fireplace and an elegant bar. Outside there is a shaded lounge deck with seating and a swimming pool built into rock with wood decking and scattered sun loungers.
ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE
Sossusvlei Excursion with exclusive “Out of Africa” Dune Picnic Lunch – discover the secrets of the desert with this ‘off the beaten track’ experience. You will head off from the Lodge after breakfast before sunrise with your professional guide in a 4X4 arriving at Sesriem Gate at sunrise. Your guide will tell you all about the history of the park, the Petrified Dunes, The lizards, beetles, scorpions, spiders and snakes and the birdlife especially the Dune Lark which is endemic to the Namib Desert. You will drive the ancient Tsauchab Riverbed and discover the trees, plants and wildlife.
You will the hike to Dead Vlei and later Sossusvlei using secret routes to minimise seeing too many other visitors. Enjoy a coffee and tea break with seasonal Fruits and homemade cookies. Before midday drive back to ‘Elim Dune’ for a generous ‘Out of Africa’ picnic lunch under one of the Camel Thorn Trees with table, chairs, tablecloth, cutlery, wine cooler, glasses, hand wash basin, freshly prepared cold food with wine, beer, soft drinks and water. Visit of Sesriem Canyon with hike down the Canyon heading back to the lodge around15:30 – 16:00
Sundowner Experience – the lodge is surrounded by magnificent landscapes and a stunning view heading west over the red sand dunes. Enjoy a sunset drive out to the hills where you are offered freshly prepared snacks and traditional sun downer drinks and for honeymoon guests a bottle of fine South African sparkling wine. Around 45 minutes after the sun sets you are picked up and taken back to the lodge.
