Lake Mburo Camp – Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo Camp is a classic tented safari camp set within the rolling hills and acacia woodlands of Lake Mburo National Park. Intimate, traditional and perfectly positioned, the camp offers a tranquil retreat with close access to the park’s rich wildlife and landscapes.

Situated in the heart of Lake Mburo National Park, the camp is surrounded by rolling hills, acacia woodland and five picturesque lakes. The park is home to over 350 bird species and is the only place in Uganda where impala are found. Its convenient location between Kampala and the western national parks makes it an ideal stopover as well as a rewarding safari destination in its own right.

Location

Lake Mburu Camp is located within Lake Mburu National Park in Kiruhura District in the Western Region of Uganda.   Lake Mburo Camp can be reached by road, around a four-hour drive from Kampala, making it one of the most accessible safari destinations in Uganda.

Accommodation

A small and intimate luxury camp in a beautiful setting with a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of plains game, it is an ideal place to enjoy the African wilderness and to start or finish a safari to Uganda.

Each of the nine guest tents are sent on wooden platforms with a veranda, bedroom, dressing room and en-suite bush shower and toilet. Hot water is provided in the dressing room and for the showers. All bedding and towels, soap etc. are provided and solar powered lighting is fitted in the tents.

The dining and bar facilities are also set on a raised wooden platform that provides stunning views of Lake Mburo. Meals are freshly prepared in our kitchen to the very highest standards.

Wildlife and Activities

Lake Mburo Camp is a superb base for exploring Uganda’s smallest savannah park. Activities include game drives in search of zebra, impala, buffalo and the rare eland antelope, as well as guided walking safaris that allow guests to experience the bush at close quarters. Boat trips on Lake Mburo reveal hippos, crocodiles and abundant birdlife, while night drives provide the opportunity to see leopard and other nocturnal species. Horseback safaris are a highlight, offering a unique perspective on the park’s open plains. After a day’s activities you can enjoy sundowners overlooking the valley and dinner under the stars in the camp’s open-sided dining area.

Conservation and Community

Lake Mburo Camp is built in harmony with its environment, using canvas and natural materials to minimise impact on the ecosystem. The camp supports conservation efforts within the park and provides employment opportunities for local people, ensuring that tourism brings direct benefits to surrounding communities.
