PORINI LION CAMP – OLARE MOTOROGI CONSERVANCY – MASIA MARA

Porini Lion Camp is located in a unique and stunning setting on the banks of the seasonal Ntiakatiak River within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy. This large area borders the Masai Mara National Reserve and is home to an abundance of animals including the Mara’s renowned Big Cats.

The award-winning, eco-friendly camp offers a unique opportunity to take guided walks with Maasai Warriors and experience day and night game drives within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy – a pristine and exclusive 33,000 acre wilderness set aside for wildlife conservation and low-impact tourism. The camp adheres to strict eco-friendly and responsible eco-tourism principles. There are limits on densities and every tent pays to protect 700 acres of wilderness which also helps to reduce the number of vehicles in the conservancy.  The camp has a prestigious Gold Eco-rating.

LOCATION: 

Porini Lion Camp is set in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy bordering the Masai Mara in Kenya.  The nearest airstrip is the Ol Kiombo airstrip which is used by daily scheduled flights from Nairobi and is a short 25 minute game drive to camp.

CAMP

Porini Lion Camp has just 10 tents with one of them being a family unit that has a central connecting lounge. The tents are spacious – with an exclusive yet friendly feel – and are tastefully furnished with local material and comfortable pillows made from colourful fabrics. The beds are comfortable with cosy duvets and blankets and soft towels in the bathroom.

Each tent contains a double and single bed with bedside tables, LED bedside lamps torch, wardrobe for hanging your clothes, luggage rack, ensuite toilet with bucket shower and basin, writing desk with lamp, carpets, and chairs and table on veranda for relaxing. Hot water bottles in each bed to chase the cold at night.

Porini Lion Camp is fully-inclusive of meals and drinks – meals at Porini Lion Camp are crafted to complement the authenticity of the safari experience.  All meals are served on a set menu basis with warming hearty breakfast in the morning, light lunches and three-course dinners. Everything at the camp is homemade and cooked with special care and attention.

Solar energy powers the lights in the tent and throughout the camp and there are no electrical outlets in the guest tents and all battery charging is done in the manager`s office.

ACTIVITIES

The Olare Motorogi Conservancy ensures a true wilderness experience with one of the lowest tourist densities in the Mara region and the highest lion densities. The only safari vehicles allowed are the few 4x4s related to the 5 small camps within this vast area and there is a rich and diverse wildlife population with good numbers of predators and herbivores.

Morning, evening and night shared game drives – are offered with  sundowners at scenic viewing points in the evening.

Escorted bush walks – with Maasai warriors and safari guide.

Bush breakfasts and bush lunches – provided as part of the experience with the focus on being out in nature with your qualified Maasai guide and spotter.

Where better to celebrate your wedding than in a romantic and tranquil setting, within stunning scenery and surrounded by the sounds of the bush. Porini Lion Camp is perfect for unique civil ceremonies, renewal of vows or blessings. Wedding ceremonies can be arranged at private, scenic viewpoints with stunning views across the game-filled landscape. Maasai traditional customs and blessings can be included to make a very special and spiritual experience.

GIVING BACK

The primary purpose of our Porini Conservancy Concept and its operations is conservation of the environment in partnership with the local communities using eco tourism ventures; This venture is directly channeling over US$1.5 Million per Year to the local Communities plus jobs in areas where opportunities for jobs were almost non-existent for the locals.

THE CAMP WELCOMES FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN AGED 8 YEARS AND OLDER AND THERE IS A FAMILY TENT – THE CAMP IS UNFENCED AND WALKING SAFARIS ARE NORMALLY FOR CHILDREN AGED 12+
