IKUKA SAFARI CAMP – RUAHA NATIONAL PARK
Perched on the edge of the Mwagusi escarpment and commanding spectacular views across the Ruaha valley – Ikuka offers a classic luxury wilderness experience. The camp has just 6 beautifully appointed rooms each with its own panoramic vista of the Ruaha wilderness. Ikuka offers a compelling insight into the dramatic wilds of Ruaha and Tanzania.
The camp is owner run and managed ensuring a personal and private safari experience. Enjoy some of Africa’s most incredible landscapes and a wildlife rich area in the knowledge that your stay is also supporting the local communities and protecting the area’s ecological heritage.
LOCATION
Ikuka Safari Camp is located in the Ruaha National Park in southern Tanzania. The camp is just 45 minutes’ drive from Msembe airstrip.
CAMP
Each of the 7 spacious tents have been built onto the Ikuka escarpment with fantastic views over Ruaha National Park – the interiors have white quartz incorporated from the escarpment itself along with other locally and sustainable sourced materials.
The rooms have 24-hour electricity, fans and hot water as well as large super-king beds, a spacious bathroom area and a lounge area with comfortable leather seating leading out onto large private balconies. There is one family room which is ideal for couples or families.
The central communal area is set up high on the Ikuka escarpment overlooking the Mwagusi river and there is a well-stocked bar, a comfortable lounge area, an airy dining space, a swimming pool with a lounging deck and an upstairs chill-out library area. The light, contemporary and airy communal spaces are all designed to make you feel at home and relaxed during your stay.
ACTIVITIES
Known for its diverse landscapes of savannah, baobab trees, miombo, rocky hills, kopjes and the Great Ruaha River itself; Ruaha is also home to an incredible diversity of wildlife including some of the largest populations of elephant and lion left anywhere in Africa. A birder’s paradise – the park has more than 500 species of birds. Representing a biodiversity transition zone between southern and eastern Africa – many species overlap and crossover resulting in a unique wildlife display.
From June to November is the dry Season and the short rains can start in December and can last up to May. Game drives are in open 4 x 4 safari vehicles and there are no night drives. Walking Safaris can be enjoyed by those who are 16 years and over.
Game drives – it is best to depart as early as possible around 6.30am with a picnic breakfast and back to camp for lunch for a siesta and dip in the swimming pool before heading out again around 4pm for an afternoon drive returning by dark.
Walking safaris – you can walk directly from the camp and the hilly terrain from camp makes for stunning scenery while out walking as well as a chance to get some good exercise. You will often see elephant, impala, kudu and giraffe on our walks as well as plenty more flora and fauna. A walk is a great opportunity do discover many of the smaller details of the bush that you might miss while on a game drive.

THE CAMP WELCOMES CHILDREN AGED 7 YEARS AND OLDER. CHILDREN MUST BE AGED 16 AND OLDER TO PARTICIPATE IN WALKING SAFARIS
