ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE
Home to over 40,000 elephants, all the big cats and more than 400 species of birds, Hwange National Park offers one of Africa’s top safari experiences.
The area is famous for its large concentrations of animals including elephant. Due to the existence of year round water seeps this area is ideal for walking and game drives producing incredible wildlife sightings.
The seeps of Deka Plains offer a permanent water source which attracts daily visits by the famous elephant herds of Hwange. Hundreds of plains game are also a common sight, as are packs of African wild dogs hunting on the floodplains. At night the air is alive with the calls of lion and leopard.
Game Drives – early morning and sunset game drives which are around 3.5 hours long or enjoy a full day drive with picnic lunch.
Night Drives – are very different from daytime game drives. As the heavy sun dips below the horizon the world takes on a different scent, sound and shape. Armed only with a red filter night light your guide will spot the nocturnal wildlife – lions hunting, the rare porcupine or aardvark.
Walking Safaris – embark on a guided walk with your ranger as you learn about wildlife, fauna and flora in the area. You normally drive to a good walking area first.
