DUMATAU – LINYANT CONCESSION
DumaTau is a Wilderness Safaris Camp – a luxury tented camp located in the private Linyanti Wildlife Reserve on the western boundary of Chobe National Park. The area is famed for large herds of elephants and exceptional game viewing along the Savute Channel.
LOCATION
DumaTau is located close to the source of the Savute Channel with access to the Linyanti Swamps, floodplains and mopane woodlands and offers an excellent combination of habitats.
CAMP
DumaTau consists of ten guest tents (eight twins and two family tents) raised off the ground to take advantage of the dramatic views of Osprey Lagoon. Each canvas-roofed en-suite tent is spacious and offers vistas through ceiling-height glass sliding doors. There is an airy, expansive dining and lounge area and a pool, all overlooking the wildlife-rich lagoon. DumaTau has a very light carbon footprint and runs on a 100% solar energy.
In keeping with Wilderness’ objective of reducing energy consumption and fuel use at all its camps, this camp is 100% solar powered, with electricity and hot water provided via solar panels and inverters. Waste water (sewage and grey water) is treated in an Above Ground Sewage Plant, ensuring that the water is clean before being allowed to enter the natural environment. In order to reduce our use of bottled water, reverse osmosis filtration is done on site to provide guests with high-quality drinking water. Like all Wilderness camps, this is managed and monitored against very strict in-house environmental standards, so only approved eco-friendly detergents and chemicals are used.
ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE
Well known for its elephant concentrations as they congregate along the waterways and lagoons during the dry winter months, the area is also renowned for general wildlife including red lechwe, Burchell’s zebra, giraffe, buffalo and warthog. Predator sightings of lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and spotted hyaena are good.
Activities at Duma Tau include twice daily game drives which allow you to encounter the rich wildlife of the Linyanti. Highlights include predator interactions and large herds of elephant. You can also experience the thrill of a night drive using spotlights to find some of the less-seen nocturnal animals.
Get closer to nature and observe the smaller things you may miss when travelling by vehicle by enjoying a walking safari or enjoy a boat or barge ride along the calm waters of the Linyanti (this activity is water-level dependent). Birding is outstanding in the area!
Duma Tau’s star bed offers a luxurious and exciting sleep-out experience and front-row seats to the spectacular Zibadianja Lagoon.
