KWANDO MMA DINARE – OKAVANGO DELTA – NORTHERN BOTSWANA
Mma Dinare- Mother Bufalo – is set in a private concession adjacent to the Moremi Game reserve on the south-eastern side of the Delta. It overlooks the Gomoti River and its flood plains and the camp has been designed to embrace the natural surroundings. This is a 100% eco-friendly camp featuring the latest in solar and waste technology and the camp has been designed to embrace the natural surroundings of the riverine forest.
LOCATION
The camp is on a private concession on the south eastern side of the Okavango Delta adjacent to Moremi Game Reserve in Northern Botswana. The airstrip services the camp is approximately 20 minutes by chartered flight from Maun and 1 hour 20 minutes from Kasane and the camp is situated 45 minutes game drive from the airstrip
CAMP
Accommodation consists of nine stylish tents including a family tent all of which overlook the Gomoti River. There is also one guide’s tent.
Both central areas are open, thatched spaces that allow you to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings whilst watching wildlife and birds from the comfort of an armchair or the bar. There is also a swimming pool and curio shop at the camp.
ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE
The area normally receives floods last and contains some of the closest dry-season watering points for the game that spreads out towards Nxai and Makgadikgadi Pans during the rains. There is a high density of game in the dry season but since quite a lot of the reserve is mopane woodlands – a favourite location for animals during the rains and early dry season -good game viewing is expected all year round.
This river system attracts a wide variety of game including elephant, buffalo, giraffe, kudu, impala, tsessebe, hippo, crocodile, genet, honey Badger and a host of plains game. Rare antelope breeds including roan, sable and eland not normally seen in the Okavango region.
As the Gomoti is the main water source in the area, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog come down to the riverside to drink and hunt. For those keen on bird-watching, the combination of the wetlands and the drier Acacia and Mopane veldt provide a perfect habitat for a variety of aquatic species including open billed storks, hammerkops, egrets, ibis and forest/savannah dwellers including raptors, shrikes, drongos, sunbirds, ground hornbills.
Day and night game drives – take place in the private concession adjacent to Moremi Game Reserve. These are on and off road safaris with a guide, and a tracker at night.
Game walks – with armed guides – seasonal and available depending on local conditions.
Mokoros – a fabulous way to enjoy the Okavango Delta and a good way to watch birds along the Gomoti River. Mokoros are water level dependent.
