ELEWANA LOISABA LODO SPRINGS

Elewana Loisaba Lodo Springs offers an ultra-private experience with eight individual, spacious tented rooms with impressive views that reach across the magical landscape of northern Kenya stretching out to Mount Kenya. The lodge sits on a vital Elephant Corridor connecting the famous Laikipia Plateau and plays a key role in supporting one of Kenya’s largest and most stable lion populations. The Conservancy is also home to several critically endangered large mammals, including Grevy’s zebra, wild dog, leopard and cheetah. The two permanent rivers and abundant permanent springs make Loisaba attractive to wildlife throughout the year.

Loisaba is a 57,000 acre wildlife conservancy and working ranch located in Northern Laikipia, Kenya.

LODGE

Service is paramount with each room assigned an Elewana Guest Ambassador to look after guests as well as a dedicated safari vehicle and a highly qualified Elewana field guide who will accompany you for the duration of your stay. There are just eight generously spacious and airy en-suite rooms with lots of natural light and large floor-to-ceiling doors and windows. The rooms have polished wood floors, stylish antique and vintage furniture in warm hues and wide verandas offering stunning views over the Laikipia plains below. Rooms include a comfortable lounge area with chairs and writing desk. Bathrooms are luxurious with solar-heated hot water rainfall showers, double-basin vanity, flush toilets and double sunbeds located on the outside veranda.

Loisaba is made for adventure: guests enjoy complete freedom to choose how they spend their time so the only barrier is your own imagination. Trek through the bush with camels, mountain bike down the escarpment, horseback-ride or drive through the wild canyons of the two great rivers that span the vast property.

ACTIVITES AND WILDLIFE

Wilderness Adventure – Loisaba is immense and you could take months exploring this land and never encounter the same view twice. You will not see other vehicles and you can enjoy spectacular wildlife and birdlife that is wild, free and exhilarating to observe.

Game Drives – one of the best ways to view the wildlife at Loisaba is on a game drive in the early morning or late afternoon – your informative guide will take you in an open vehicle across the open plains, through the bush or along the river bank viewing the wide variety of game, birds, plants and trees.

Fishing – can be arranged in the river and dams, kindly note this is seasonal and depends on the rains. Equipment, both modern and traditional can be supplied.

Horse Rides – experience the exhilaration of riding on the plains with a herd of zebra,walking gently through a graceful forest of giraffe or past a herd of elephant. On horseback it is possible to get unusually close to wildlife. A reasonable degree of riding skill is required.

Walking – a great way to view the stunning diversity of Loisaba is on foot. You will be accompanied by traditional Samburu guides whose knowledge of local flora, fauna, cultural and history is unmatched.

Cultural experience – spend an afternoon down at the traditional Masai village – a great experience see how the Masai live, watch them dance and view some of their beadwork.

Camel Safaris – the traditional mode of transport in the dry land of Northern Kenya and another great way to experience Loisaba. Short or longer walks can be arranged.

Mountain Biking – for some excitement and adrenalin take a mountain bike and your guide and explore some of the biking trails around Loisaba Conservancy.

Loisaba Conservancy’s Anit Poaching Unit – Loisaba Conservancy has its own dedicated anti-poaching team with four sniffer dogs.

GIVING BACK

The Maasai community – the Loisaba Community Conservation Foundation (LCCF) aims to assist the area surrounding Loisaba Conservancy by encouraging community-driven enterprise and fostering the development of philanthropic based community initiatives.

Conservation – all profits generated by tourism activities at Loisaba are dedicated to conservation of the 230km2 private wilderness area, in addition to supporting community orientated health, education and enterprise programmes outside its boundaries with the neighbouring Samburu and Laikipiak Maasai tribes.

Loisaba Conservancy’s Anti Poaching Unit – Loisaba Conservancy in partnership with The Nature Conservancy has its own dedicated anti-poaching team.

The conservancy is a haven for more than 260 bird and 50 mammal species. Alongside the more common wildlife, Loisaba provides critical habitat and a migration corridor 800 elephants, large herds of buffalo, dozens of the endangered Grevy’s zebra, towers of endangered reticulated giraffes and the beautiful greater kudu. Our cat population is thriving, with over three lion prides on Loisaba at one time and numerous leopards and cheetahs. To top it off the African wild dog, thought for many years to be extinct in the region, are once again being sighted regularly and often denning on Loisaba.
