QOROKWE CAMP – QOROKWE CONCESSION – OKAVANGO DELTA
Qorokwe is a luxurious Wilderness Safaris camp in the private Qorokwe Concession in the Okavango Delta and is a blend of luxury eco-chic within a stunning Okavango setting. There are good concentrations of larger predators – lion, leopard and spotted hyena, cheetah and wild dog. The exclusive Qorokwe Concession encompasses over 26 180 hectares (64 692 acres) in a high-density game area of the south-eastern Okavango, bordering the renowned Moremi Game Reserve. Exploring Qorokwe reveals a world of diverse Delta habitats supporting a wealth of wildlife, earning the area’s well-deserved reputation as a top Botswana safari destination.
LOCATION
The camp is set in the private Qorokwe Concession in the Okavango Delta.
CAMP
Qorokwe has eight elegant tented suites plus one very spacious family unit with its own splash pool. En-suite facilities feature an indoor/outdoor shower. The magnificent main area is the focal point of the camp and overlooks a lagoon. The dining area, lounge, library and bar are built on raised wooden platforms, all connected by walkways.
This camp is 100% solar powered, with electricity and hot water provided via solar panels and inverters. Waste water (sewage and grey water) is treated in an Above Ground Sewage Plant, ensuring that the water is clean before being allowed to enter the natural environment. In order to reduce our use of bottled water, reverse osmosis filtration is done on site to provide guests with high-quality drinking water. Like all Wilderness camps, this is managed and monitored against very strict in-house environmental standards, so only approved eco-friendly detergents and chemicals are used.
ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE
The Qorokwe Concession comprises various biomes, from scattered acacia woodland with herds of giraffe, zebra and various plains game to pristine floodplains, home to curious red lechwe and gnarled buffalo bulls, whence the name Qorokwe is derived: “The place where the buffalo broke through the bush into the water.” Besides the local lion pride comprising some 15 members, elephant are a feature of this classic Okavango Delta setting.
Activities include day and night 4 x 4 drives and exploring the Okavango Delta by mokoro and during the day you can cool down in the camp’s splash pool overlooking the Delta.
Qorokwe plays an important role in the empowerment of local communities through job creation and other income-generating opportunities.
GIVING BACK
In addition to Qorokwe’s commitment to a light carbon footprint, including 100% solar-generated power, this camp plays an important role in the empowerment of local communities through job creation and other income-generating opportunities. Qorokwe promotes the recovery of an area previously used for hunting, and demonstrates the importance of ecotourism in more peripheral concessions.
Through the use of reusable bottles for guests and installing on-site water purification systems at our camps, the camp has been able to reduce their plastic water bottle usage by 75%.
Children in the Wilderness, a life skills educational and environmental programme for children who live in the villages around the conservation areas, is an independent non-profit organisation established and supported by Wilderness Safaris. CITW focuses on the next generation of decision-makers, inspiring them to care for their natural heritage and to become custodians of these areas in the future.
