SAVUTI CAMP – LINYANTI CONCESSION
Savuti is a Wilderness Safaris Camp set in the Private Linyanti Concession in Linyanti. With seven canvas and thatch tents the camp offers exclusive access to the Savuti Channel and diverse water and land based activities. The Savuti Channel, famous as a sporadic and unusual watercours, was dry for many years before the waters returned in 2008 and game congregated around and adapted to their new surroundings. As part of a natural cycle the channel is dry once more resulting in a rich feeding ground and corridor between the surrounding mopane woodlands for both plains game and predators. The area has excellent game viewing including dry seasonal concentrations of herds and predators.
LOCATION
Savuti Camp is situated in the private Linyanti Concession along the Savute Channel in northern Botswana.
CAMP
This intimate camp’s en-suite accommodation is in seven large walk-in tents – including a family unit that is raised off the ground. From the camp’s thatched dining area, a small pool and large viewing area with fire deck extend outwards on raised wooden decks, providing a wonderful view of the Channel and its wildlife.
This camp is powered by a hybrid system, combining a diesel-powered generator that charges a bank of batteries, which in turn supplies the camp with electricity through an inverter. Thanks to this system, the generator only needs to operate for eight hours a day as opposed to 24 hours. Waste water (sewage and grey water) is treated in an Above Ground Sewage Plant, ensuring that the water is clean before being allowed to enter the natural environment. In order to reduce our use of bottled water, reverse osmosis filtration is done on site to provide guests with high-quality drinking water. Like all Wilderness camps, this camp is managed and monitored against very strict in-house environmental standards, so only approved eco-friendly detergents and chemicals are used.
ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE
The Linyanti has diverse and prolific wildlife, but is most noted for its very large elephant population which can reach enormous densities during the dry winter months. Other game concentrations are also high, and apart from abundant plains game, species such as roan and sable antelope, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted hyaena, black-backed jackal and wild dog may also be encountered. This area can also be excellent for the rarely-seen aardvark and aardwolf. Birding is spectacular – the Linyanti Concession is an internationally recognised Important Bird Area (IBA).
Activities include 4 x 4 morning and afternoon game drives, night drives, walking safaris, birding, watching elephants from the nearby hide and sleep out under the stars!
