KINGS POOL CAMP – LINYANTI CONCESSION
Kings Pool is a luxurious, 100% solar powered camp in the private Linyanti Concession which offers excellent dry season game viewing concentrations – elephant herds, lion, giraffe, leopard and wild dog. The camp offers a sunken photographic hide which offers fabulous wildlife opportunities.
LOCATION
King’s Pool overlooks the handsome oxbow lagoon in the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, bordering Chobe National Park and is located in the private Linyanti concession.
CAMP
This 100% solar-powered camp has nine luxurious tents each boasting a large bedroom area and lounge leading to a veranda with a private plunge pool and thatched sala from which to soak up the gorgeous views and possibly even spot elephant crossing the channel. The river along which King’s Pool is located hosts numerous species of birds and is a magnet for game in the dry winter months.
The spacious main area comprises a lounge, dining and a convivial bar area stylishly set on expansive raised decks. There is also a pool and an open-air ‘kgotla’ for evening dining under the stars.
ACTIVITIES AND WILDLIFE
The Linyanti Wildlife Reserve has abundant wildlife in a wide variety of species, but is most noted for its very large elephant population which can reach enormous densities during the dry winter months. Other game is abundant, such as impala, lechwe, kudu, zebra, giraffe, buffalo and bushbuck, and their predators: lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and spotted hyaena. Rarer species such as sable and roan antelope also emerge from the woodlands during the dry season. Birding is spectacular.
Activities at Kings Pool include morning, afternoon and evening game drives or experience nature while walking on foot in the company of an armed guide.
Get closer to wildlife and watch massive elephant feet and trunks at eye-level from the unique sunken photographic hide or unwind in the Wilderness – massages are available to enjoy in the privacy of your tent.
End your day with a trip on the colonial-style Queen Sylvia barge along the Linyanti River (water levels dependent).
GIVING BACK
One of the camp’s key purposes is ensure the continued protection of a piece of land in the jigsaw of the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area – which is pivotal for elephant and wild dog dispersal and the existence of declining species like roan and sable antelope.
Conservation Projects – the camp works closely with local authorities to ensure the conservation of wildlife in the area. It supports dedicated conservation and research focused on species on the IUCN Red List such as the African wild dog, elephant, lion and roan antelope.
The Wilderness Wildlife Trust is an independent entity that facilitates fundraising and distribution of the monies to deserving projects so that, both directly and indirectly, Wilderness Safaris is able reach more people, wildlife and places. The Trust focuses its work across three key areas: research and conservation; community empowerment and education; and anti-poaching and management.
In keeping with Wilderness’ objective of reducing energy consumption and fuel use at all its camps, this camp is 100% solar powered, with electricity and hot water provided via solar panels and inverters. Waste water (sewage and grey water) is treated in an Above Ground Sewage Plant, ensuring that the water is clean before being allowed to enter the natural environment. In order to reduce our use of bottled water, reverse osmosis filtration is done on site to provide guests with high-quality drinking water. Like all Wilderness camps, this is managed and monitored against very strict in-house environmental standards, so only approved eco-friendly detergents and chemicals are used.
Children in the Wilderness, a life skills educational and environmental programme for children who live in the villages around the conservation areas, is an independent non-profit organisation established and supported by Wilderness Safaris. CITW focuses on the next generation of decision-makers, inspiring them to care for their natural heritage and to become custodians of these areas in the future.
